Despite Frozen making his emotional connection to his adoptive family clear, Kristoff's biological parents remain a mystery. They received little acknowledgment in Frozen II or any of the franchise's spin-off books, leading fans to theorize he could possibly be related to the Northuldra people seen in the sequel.
He is a Sami outdoorsman that worked as an ice harvester with his reindeer Sven. Having been an orphan who was raised by a colony of trolls in the mountains, Kristoff was initially wary of humans, believing them to be untrustworthy, cheating crooks.
There seems to be a lot of speculation in the scene when Kristoff offers to take Anna to the trolls of whether or not he knows that Anna was the same girl he saw years before. Jennifer Lee has confirmed that Kristoff does indeed know, although she hasn't made specifics about how MUCH he knows.
These seemed like more than just a coincidence, but Frozen 2 did not confirm any such link existed. Although Frozen 2 quickly debunked the theory when it came out, Kristoff's story is worse without that connection to Northuldra.
Disney has greenlit exactly zero details on Kristoff's biological parentage. I think the most logical and widely tolerated headcanon is that he was abandoned as a very young child (or his parents both died somehow, near or at the same time) and he was rather informally adopted by the ice harvesters.
