She shows him her bow and arrow, and they talk about hunting and the secrets of the woods. Katniss thinks about how she is a much better hunter with Gale as a partner and compares her relationship with Gale to her relationship with Peeta. She never questions Gale, but is always suspicious of Peeta.

Gale is a member of District 12 and Katniss's closest friend and hunting partner. Like Katniss, Gale is the main provider of his family, as his father has died. He's a tough, strong, and practical boy with a deep sense of loyalty toward his family and friends.
Katniss then forms an alliance with her fellow District 12 tribute, Peeta, and grows close to him. The two eventually make it to the finale of the games, where they become the victors after defying the Capitol's attempt to force one to kill the other.
It's only implied that they get it on via snuggling and other affectionate acts in close quarters — but if you have read the book, they really imply that they took their relationship to the next level.
Ultimately, in Mockingjay, it was undeniable that Katniss was completely in love with Peeta. Even though both Gale and Peeta are great men who wanted the best for Katniss, there's no doubt Peeta was kinder, and more loyal and understanding. These qualities made Peeta way better as a character and as a love interest.
The problem was that Gale was the one who created the firebomb devices. Despite not being fully responsible, Katniss couldn't overlook his possible involvement. Katniss returned to District 12, where she reunited with Peeta after she couldn't allow herself to fully forgive her childhood best friend.
Katniss's focus on survival and her family's safety prevented her from fully considering romance, but her feelings for Peeta and Gale diverged in the end. Katniss ultimately chose Peeta because he understood her trauma and she didn't want to lose him, proving her love for him.
Gale was helping the team by putting in suggestions and helped also by defense and offense in the attack on the capitol. He designed a bomb that set off near/in the hospital where Prim was working. Prim does die in this scene, along with many patients.
When Gale is most in pain is when Katniss kisses him, and this is true again as we see her answer Gale's pain with a kiss. She wants to give Gale what he wants, but she can't yet completely commit to him, as she must think of her family and Peeta and being the Mockingjay for the revolution.
Katniss feels betrayed, most of all by Haymitch, who used her and Peeta. Eventually she wakes to find Gale there. He's badly injured and tells her the Capitol bombed District 12 after the Games. He got Prim and Katniss's mother out in time, but the District 12 is gone.
The next morning, they head out to hunt, but Peeta is loud and scares away all of the animals, so they separate. He goes to gather roots and berries, while Katniss searches for prey. They work out a bird whistle to signal one another that they're okay, and when Peeta doesn't answer, Katniss runs to find him.
Toward the end of the first Hunger Games movie and book, Foxface meets a rather ignominious end. Beforehand, she had been stealing berries that were harvested by Peeta Mellark. Unfortunately, this brand of edible theft wasn't quite as ingenious as she had thought, with Foxface dying after consuming them.
Although she will never know for sure, Katniss does recognize that she cannot be with Gale. She will never be able to forgive him for his idea — the parachute bombs — that killed Prim.
She later realizes, after a conversation with the imprisoned President Snow, that President Alma Coin sent Prim to her death (which was caused by a hovercraft by the rebels) both to sway the Capitol citizens to Coin's side by making them think Snow was bombing the children, and to swing Katniss to her side through the ...
It took time for Peeta to break out of that conditioning, and even when the possibility existed that Peeta could be a danger to Katniss, the two of them still elected to be together and build a future in a post-Hunger-Games world. Their love for one another is evident.
When Katniss comes home to District 12, Gale immediately confesses his love for Katniss, and she realizes she might have feelings for him, too — but she can't explore them, because she has to continue her fake relationship with Peeta or else her entire family, including “cousin Gale,” will be killed.
Peeta is the same age as Katniss, making him 16 years old in The Hunger Games and 17-18 in Catching Fire and Mockingjay. Peeta is of "medium height, stocky build" and has "ashy blond hair that falls in waves over his forehead." He has blue eyes.
At the end of Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt. 2, after all the killing and the brutality and the terror is over, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is shown having a tranquil moment in her home, District 12, with her (surprise!) husband Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and their (surprise!) two children.
When did Peeta fall in love with Katniss in the book?
She asks Peeta about when his crush first started on her. He describes the first day of school, how his father had pointed her out to him as the daughter of the girl he once loved, and how Katniss had stolen his heart when she sang and the birds stopped to listen.
Peeta thanks Katniss for finding him and she says that he would have done the same. He talks about what Katniss should do if he doesn't make it back. She's worried that he might die, and to keep him from speaking of such things, she kisses him.
Peeta sleeps first. Katniss kisses him on the forehead, for herself, she admits, and not for the audience. She is glad to have him there with her, comforted by the thought that together they can fight Peeta.
