Coral (Elizabeth Perkins) Elizabeth Perkins' appearance in Finding Nemo was all too brief, playing Coral, the wife of Marlin and mother of Nemo who dies at the fins of a barracuda. Coral is a minor character in Disney/Pixar's 2003 animated film, Finding Nemo. She was the mate of Marlin and mother of Nemo and approximately 399 unborn clownfish. Unfortunately, Coral and her entire family were attacked by a barracuda in which all of them except Marlin and Nemo perished.
In the opening scene of the Disney film Finding Nemo, we see Nemo's mother Coral die. Coral's death was massive tragedy for Marlin. Her death showed him that the outside is dangerous and that he could lose anyone at any time. He changed how he saw life and kept his son protected from the danger that it really was.
That's right, we're talking about the opening scene in the movie, where a giant barracuda attacks the home of Nemo's dad, Marlin, and ends up eating Nemo's mom and all of his future brothers and sisters.

What happens to Marlins wife in Finding Nemo?
To recap the film follows clownfish Marlin on his journey to find his only son Nemo after the pair are separated when divers take Nemo for a fish tank in a dentist's surgery in Australia. Crucially, at the beginning of the film Marlin's wife and all their children are killed by a barracuda leaving only Nemo alive.
Barracuda have a formidable reputation as ruthless predators—even depicted in Disney Pixar's Finding Nemo as the merciless villain that kills Nemo's mother. Widely distributed around the world, these ferocious fish are commonly found in tropical regions with warm water and plenty of food.
Some corals are hermaphroditic (having both male and female reproductive cells). Others are either male or female. Both sexes can occur in a colony, or a colony may consist of individuals of the same sex.
The protagonist, Nemo, displays a small, or "deformed," fin that is a congenital result of a fatal attack on his mother and sibling eggs—a corporeal characteristic that the story surrounds, yet does not drown in.
The companionship that emerges is completely genuine. Nonetheless, Dory and Marlin's relationship is a complicated and interesting one. Some view Dory as Marlin's companion and speculate that the two are actually lovers.
Nemo hatches as an undifferentiated hermaphrodite (as all clownfish are born) while his father transforms into a female now that his female mate is dead. Since Nemo is the only other clownfish around, he becomes a male and mates with his father (who is now a female).
Nemo. Dory has a motherly relationship with Nemo. When the two met, she was relieved to find someone with kindness, and offered to help him look for his father, although she didn't remember she was looking for him too.
Desperate for food, he ate all of the eggs. Two possibilities are that Marlin ate all but one of the eggs before coming to his senses, or that he ate them all and then had his mental breakdown similar to the first theory.
Ok so at the very beginning of the movie, it seems like the only reason the Barracuda ate the Marin and Coral's eggs was because it swam after Coral when she went to go protect them.
We heard bedtime stories about Nemo's father's adventures with the mysterious, adventurous Flip in Slumberland. But then Nemo lost her father in a horrible sea storm.
QBI researcher Dr Fabio Cortesi said the Great Barrier Reef anemonefish was basically Nemo's cousin. “We looked at everything starting with the genes they use to see and what proteins they express, and in combination with anatomical data, predicted what these anemonefish can see,” he said.
Another dark Pixar theory suggests the animated film predominantly set under the sea is meant to showcase the tragic loss in the eyes of a husband and father. More specifically, the theory posits that Nemo never existed in the movie, and instead was a figment of Marlin the clownfish's imagination.
Male and female gametes combine together and form a baby coral, called a planula. Planulae float in the water for days or weeks until they find a hard surface to which they can attach. Along many reefs, coral spawning occurs as a synchronized event, when many coral species release their gametes around the same time.
About three-quarters of all stony corals produce male and/or female gametes. Most of these species are broadcast spawners, releasing massive numbers of eggs and sperm into the water to distribute their offspring over a broad geographic area.
Parents guide: Possibly frightening scenes: This movie definitely has some tense moments for little kids. The opening scene where the barracuda attacks Marlin's family is one you might not want to show the youngest of kids. Even the scene where Nemo gets captured might scare sensitive viewers.
As mentioned, the male clownfish will tend to the eggs until they hatch. He will scope out any that are not viable or damaged, and yes, he will eat those. Sometimes all of the eggs will be eaten, especially during the parents' first few attempts.
