Katniss, Prim, and their mother each fill different roles typically assigned to women. Katniss is a submissive female; Prim is the innocent angel in the household; and their mother portrays a mad woman that cannot cope with reality.
It's her ability to find strength in other women—and to support them in return—that makes the girl on fire a feminist. When Katniss befriends Rue, she forms an feminist archetype: an alliance of women who support each other in the face of oppression.
The society of Panem does not have standard expectations from men and women. Both men and women take up the same roles within the society. Females work in mines, which is usually male's profession due to the physical strain. Vivid example of gender equality is Katniss who hunts food for her family.
Throughout the series, Katniss and Peeta fluctuate between a platonic and romantic relationship. For a period in Mockingjay, Peeta is brainwashed by the Capitol to hate Katniss and try to kill her. But he recovers, and in the epilogue, we learn that Peeta and Katniss are married with two children.
Katniss made the choice to build her future with Peeta. If she didn't love him, she wouldn't have made that choice. Katniss made her whole world about getting the people she cared about to the next day, her choice to survive with Peeta proves her love for him.
Katniss has a conflicted relationship with her mother. Following her father's death, her mother fell into deep depression and now rarely speaks. As a result, Katniss has a difficult time feeling love and affection for her mother, even as she recognizes that her mother is a kind and intelligent woman.
Gale was responsible for creating weapons that would trigger a second wave of bombs to target first responders and combat healers. This invention potentially ended up killing Prim, but even if he wasn't directly responsible, Katniss found this tactic so abhorrent that she lost her affection for him.
Long before Peeta risked punishment from his mother by throwing Katniss some bread, his father had pointed the girl out to him and explained to his son that he had once been in love with her mother.
Gale is jealous of Peeta and the relationship he has with Katniss, and he wants Katniss to decide between them, though he doesn't press Katniss during her recovery in District 13. Gale is an excellent hunter and excels at setting snares and traps.
Katniss, the Mockingjay or the symbol of the rebellion is portrayed as a strong and independent woman. When she was still in the game, Katniss shows her capabilities as an independent woman that can make her own decision.
Why is Katniss jealous when the other girls talk about Gale?
When she discusses Gale, she talks about how much the girls at school like him and how this makes her jealous, but not because she likes him. Instead, she's worried about losing a good hunting partner. Just as she masks her love for Gale, she also must mask her true feelings about the Capitol.
“Katniss was an introvert and a survivor,” he told the publication. “She was quite quiet and stoic, you could almost say [she was] asexual. Lucy Gray is the opposite. She wears her sexuality on her sleeve, [and] she really is a performer,” he said, referring to the character of Lucy as the “anti-Katniss.”
Katniss has been working to keep her family alive during the many years since her father's death. She is a tomboy. She is strong, well fed and knows how to use a bow and arrow. She has many of the survival skills that her peers lack.
Katniss's focus on survival and her family's safety prevented her from fully considering romance, but her feelings for Peeta and Gale diverged in the end. Katniss ultimately chose Peeta because he understood her trauma and she didn't want to lose him, proving her love for him.
She later realizes, after a conversation with the imprisoned President Snow, that President Alma Coin sent Prim to her death (which was caused by a hovercraft by the rebels) both to sway the Capitol citizens to Coin's side by making them think Snow was bombing the children, and to swing Katniss to her side through the ...

In the case of Johanna, they each hated each other because that was what the Capitol had taught them to do. They were from competing Districts, and the idea of the Games was to keep the lesser citizens of Panem distrustful of one another and unwilling to form alliances (or raise arms in war).
She was only 13 years old when she was killed in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, and her youth only makes the tragedy that much harder for Katniss to bear after everything else she had suffered. Prim's death is a truly heartbreaking moment.
How The Hunger Games Three-Finger Salute Evolved Throughout The Series. During The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the three-fingered salute is still used as a gesture of goodbye, but also comes to represent the anger and grief people feel toward the Capitol at taking their children to be killed.
It's only implied that they get it on via snuggling and other affectionate acts in close quarters — but if you have read the book, they really imply that they took their relationship to the next level.
