Ellen DeGeneres brought her unique vocal talents to the charming and forgetful pacific regal blue tang Dory. In addition to getting her own spin-off in Finding Dory, DeGeneres' other voice credits are one and the same with Brooks—Doctor Dolittle and a 2010 episode of The Simpsons.
Stand-up comedian and popular talk show host Ellen DeGeneres voices Dory in the film. Dory is a forgetful blue tang fish that loves her family, prompting an epic quest to reunite with her parents after being separated from them as a youngster.
But according to DeGeneres, being asked to voice Dory in "Finding Nemo" in 2000 saved her, adding that "it was like $75,000 for three years of work." She also went on to voice Dory in the Finding Nemo sequel.

Many of the characters' humorous idiosyncrasies could be called "abnormalities." Dory (Ellen DeGeneres), a lively blue tang who becomes Marlin's sidekick on the quest for Nemo's rescue, has chronic short-term memory loss.

Eleven year old Hayden Rolence has taken on the role and has been eagerly studying the lines and was quoted by the International Business Times as told to The Washington Times that, “I mainly tried to make my voice sound like Alexander's voice, because I thought he was such a good person to play Nemo.”

It is revealed in Finding Dory that Dory's ability to 'speak whale' in Finding Nemo was taught to her by her friend Destiny the whale shark. However, whale sharks aren't real whales and thus do not communicate like whales, so she never could have taught Dory in the first place.

Nemo is a boy at the moment. He's referred to repeatedly as 'son' in the film, and clownfish start out their lives as male anyway. He may at some point in his life turn female - clownfish start out as male and then can turn female as conditions require - but that's not shown in the scope of the movies.
This probably explains why the sequel called 'Finding Dory' will be focused on her. Dory in the film has short term memory loss, perhaps a nod to the urban legend that fish only have three second memories.
In his first appearance in the episode "Army", it's hinted that he has ADHD. Jack loves to play army with his best friend Rusty while also playing with the other kids such as Bluey and Mackenzie.
Tasha Robinson from The Verge seems to pinpoint the overarching theme of the film in her Dory review when she states, “disabilities aren't the same as limitations.” Dory's parents and friends will work with her as much as they need to in order for her to feel safe and cared for despite any challenge she may face.
However, a few armchair experts have pointed out the similarities between Dory's symptoms and a condition called anterograde amnesia. Anterograde amnesia can be caused by an injury or disease that damages the parts of the brain responsible for forming memories.
