It wasn't long, however, before Merlin discovered that it wasn't Gwen that Arthur was in love with, but the Lady Vivian. Horrified, he rushed back to Gwen's house to retrieve the flowers, but it was too late.
Guinevere, nicknamed Gwen by Arthur and Morgana, was Arthur's wife and queen, and the love of his life. They had been betrothed when they were children and were close, although Arthur had been distrustful of the magical and "protected" Gwen from Nari even though she'd meant Gwen no harm.
Arthur was staying with King Leodegrance of a nearby kingdom. Arthur met his daughter Guinevere, and fell instantly in love. Merlin tried to persuade Arthur against marrying her, telling him that she would lead to his and his country's ruin. Arthur loved her too much, and married her anyway.
At first it seemed that Morgana had a crush on Arthur and she was always near him and supporting him, Arthur had feelings for her too and he thought that she was beautiful, time after she find out that she was the half sister of Arthur and Arthur was in love with Gwen.
The French Vulgate texts establish the idea that Viviane is Merlin's student as well as the woman that he is in love with. We also learn that Merlin is the son of the devil. Viviane and Merlin are in love, and Viviane wishes to preserve the state of happiness that they are in.
Bradley James says in an interview that his character Arthur's friendship with Merlin is stronger than his love for Gwen. Alexander Vlahos said in an interview that “becomes a love story between two men. In a platonic sense, it becomes a brilliant love story between Arthur and Merlin.”
Arthur also falls in love with Mary Linton, and they eventually get engaged. The relationship doesn't work out, mostly because her family disapproves of Arthur's outlaw lifestyle.
Arthur, son of Igraine and Uther Pendragon, is thus Morgan's half-brother, and her full sisters include Mordred's mother, the Queen of Orkney. The young Morgan unhappily marries Urien, with whom she has a son, Yvain.
Here, Merlin survives the reign of Arthur, about the fall of whom he is told by Taliesin. Merlin spends a part of his life as a madman in the woods and marries a woman named Guendoloena (a character inspired by the male Gwenddoleu ap Ceidio).
Merlin's magical link to the land impales him on the sword, and Morgana seizes the opportunity to trap him and steal his secret Charm of Making. Taking the form of Guinevere, she seduces the unknowing Arthur. She later gives birth to a son, Mordred, whose incestuous origin strikes the land with famine and sickness.
King Arthur marries Guinevere, daughter of the King of Scotland. Merlin tries to warn him against the marriage because Guinevere is in love with Sir Lancelot, one of Arthur's knights.
However, Mordred's faith in Arthur and Camelot was shattered after the imprisonment and death of his beloved Kara. Believing that Arthur had betrayed him and metaphorically spat on their friendship, Mordred turned against the king and joined Morgana once more.
Then Arthur is pulling him around and clasping the back of his head, tenderly, as though Merlin's the most precious thing in the world. 'Don't you dare ever lie to me again,' he says, and then kisses him. 'True love,' Merlin says breathlessly, when they break for air.
Guinevere is childless in most stories. The few exceptions of that include Arthur's son named Loholt or Ilinot in Perlesvaus and Parzival (first mentioned in Erec and Enide).
Arthur dies from the hand of Mordred …. see bellow how exactly Arthur dies in the myth. The battle raged on all day, and by nightfall, it was down to every last man to fight. In the commotion, Arthur had dropped Excalibur and its scabbard.
Morgana catches up with Merlin and Arthur and drives their horses away, but she is killed by Merlin wielding Excalibur. Without horses, Merlin cannot get Arthur to the Isle in time, and Arthur dies in Merlin's arms, after thanking his friend for everything he has done.
"As soon as Arthur knows that Merlin has magic, we felt the format of the show was over," Capps explains. "Because the format of the show was that he had to hide it. It's the end of the story – or the end of this version of the story."
Morgan hated Arthur for his purity and unknowing hypocrisy and so plotted with her lover, Sir Accolon, to steal both Excalibur and the British throne. Arthur met Accolon in combat without his magical sword, but the Lady of the Lake Nimue helped him retrieve it and win the battle.
Seeing Mordred, he picked up a spear, and charged at him. Mordred charged back with his sword. The sword came forward and cleaved Arthur's skull just as he drove his spear through his son's hateful heart.
Offspring. Although Arthur is given sons in both early and late Arthurian tales, he is rarely granted significant further generations of descendants. This is at least partly because of the premature deaths of his sons, who in the later tradition usually (and prominently) include Mordred.
One of the saddest moments came in the episode "The Fires of Idirsholas" as fans saw the beginning of Morgana's descent into evil. After teaming up with her sister, Morgause, Morgana becomes unaware that she is being used as a vessel in her sister's plan to take over Camelot.
Avalon: In some versions of the legend, it is said that after King Arthur's death, he was taken to the mystical island of Avalon to be healed or to await his eventual return.
She is variously depicted as the lover of Merlin, the foster mother of Lancelot, and the protector of Arthur, upon whom she bestows the sword Excalibur.
