While in Havana negotiating with Roth, Michael discovers that Fredo is the family traitor behind the assassination attempt on him. After telling Michael that he has never met Ola, Fredo later carelessly tells Geary that he had been to a nightclub with Ola.
While in Havana, Michael learned that Fredo betrayed him when Fredo accidentally let it slip that he and Johnny Ola had been to a sex show in Havana. He confronted Fredo at a New Year's party in Havana, telling Fredo that he knew he was the traitor, and that he broke Michael's heart.
A rift grows between Pentangeli and Michael, however, that eventually results in Pentangeli betraying the family. Pentangeli's character was created in The Godfather Part II by Coppola and Puzo due to actor Richard Castellano not reprising his role as Clemenza in the sequel.
Why did Fabrizio betray Michael? He betrayed Michael for passage to America and enough money to start a small pizza place in Upstate New York. The scenes that Coppola shot for the movie were somewhat different. In the book, Fabrizio was killed at the same time Michael was taking care of Barzini and Tattalia.
Did Michael Corleone ever get revenge on Fabrizio?
While Michael gets revenge on those who ordered the hit, Fabrizio is never seen again. This might seem like a strange oversight, but both Godfather and Godfather Part 2 did in fact feature scenes where Michael gained his revenge. A deleted scene from the first movie revealed that Fabrizo owned a pizzeria in New York.
After Michael and Kay are dancing in the communion party, we see Fabrizio ("Fred Vincent"), leaving his pizzeria in Buffalo, New York, and starting his car, at which point a previously planted car bomb explodes. According to The Godfather Part III, Hagen has already died before the time frame of the film, which is 1979–1980. There is no specific indication in the film as to when or how he died, except that it was prior to his son, Andrew (John Savage), being ordained a Roman Catholic priest.
In Winegardner's 2006 sequel, The Godfather's Revenge, Fredo appears in one of Michael's dreams. In the dream, Fredo warns Michael about an unspecified threat, and asks him why he had his own brother killed. Much of the novel portrays Michael dealing with his guilt over Fredo's murder.
At the Long Beach Causeway toll plaza, Barzini's men trap Sonny and shoot him to death. During a meeting with the other crime family dons to establish peace, Vito realizes that Barzini masterminded Sonny's murder. After Michael returns from Sicily, he assumes Sonny's place as Vito's heir apparent.
Yes. The way she reminded Michael that poor Fredo had drowned seemed to make it clear she was telling him she knew. It was her speech, manner, and inflection that inferred the truth. A woman who had become as astute and clever as Connie wouldn't just make an idle comment such as that.
Clemenza. No one was more loyal to the Corleone Crime Family than the first capo, Clemenza. Among his most iconic scenes was when he had the traitor Paulie executed and when he trained Michael on how to whack Sollozzo and McCluskey.
Fictional biography and early years. Vito Corleone is based on a composite of mid-20th-century New York Mafia figures Carlo Gambino, Frank Costello, Joe Bonanno, and Joe Profaci. The character's story begins as Vito Andolini in Corleone, Sicily, in the Kingdom of Italy.

During a New Year's Eve party at Batista's mansion, Fredo drunkenly tells Patrick Geary that Ola had taken him to a nightclub in Las Vegas, thus proving that they know each other, and that Fredo betrayed his brother to Roth. Michael orders his bodyguard to kill Ola and Roth.
On top of losing his daughter after the opera, Michael dies in the worst way possible. He doesn't get brutally shot down or choked to death, but he dies alone, with no friends or family in sight.
Toward the end of the film, Michael names Vincent as his successor, on condition that he break off his relationship with Mary. After her brother's debut concert, the assassin Mosca tries to kill Michael. One bullet grazes Michael's shoulder, but the other accidentally hits Mary in the chest, fatally wounding her.
Kay did not know. In the Movie, Michael tracks Kay down after he has been back for several years. In the movie Kay does not know. In the book Kay does not know.
