Along with fellow District 12 victor Peeta Mellark, Katniss Everdeen returns home safely after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games. Winning means that they must leave their loved ones behind and embark on a Victory Tour throughout the districts for a couple of days.
The 76th Hunger Games happened during President Snow's last month ruling over Panem. It had barely been 3 months since the Quarter Quell and Panem was ,of course, furious he would do this. The Victors were Isolde Gelding and Fleur Dirgette.
Lucy Gray Baird is the District 12 female tribute and victor of the 10th Hunger Games. She was not born in District 12 but was a member of the Covey, a group of travelling musicians.
At the end of the game, Peeta and Katniss win together by refusing to kill each other. When they are the only two left, Katniss defies the Gamemakers by suggesting she and Peeta eat toxic nightlock berries and die together. Just as they are about to consume the poison, they are both declared the winners.
Katniss's focus on survival and her family's safety prevented her from fully considering romance, but her feelings for Peeta and Gale diverged in the end. Katniss ultimately chose Peeta because he understood her trauma and she didn't want to lose him, proving her love for him.
Summary. In The Hunger Games series, Katniss killing President Coin instead of President Snow surprised many. Still, it was because Coin was revealed to be a ruthless leader with her own political interests.
He eventually, however, did come to love her, but in the end chose to eschew love in exchange for power and ambition. Filled with ideas of control and power from Dr. Volumnia Gaul, he made it his ambition to rule over all, even if people called him an iron-fisted, cruel tyrant.
The 100th Hunger were the 5th Quinquennial Quell and were held in an arena known as "The American Nightmare" and lasted for 3 days. The main events were rotating weather. This year's victor was Tritica MacDonald, aged 17, from District 9.
He only uses Katniss because the Capitol is brutally oppressive and he realizes that, with Katniss's help, the rebels have a real chance of bringing it down. This sort of cynical pragmatism largely defines Haymitch, and it stems from a combination of realism and a rebellious spirit.
After Maysilee was killed, Haymitch faced off against the last remaining tribute, a girl from District 1. Although his opponent nearly got the upper hand, Haymitch outsmarted her by leading her to the force field and dodging her ax throw, causing it to bounce back and kill her.
According to the star behind Effie, Elizabeth Banks, she and Haymitch's Woody Harrelson improvised the scene. Considering she's been adamant about the characters having some romantic connection, it only makes sense that they'd share a goodbye kiss. It's very on-brand for Effie, as well.
Peeta, Annie, and Beetee vote no, while Johanna and Enobaria vote yes. After some thought, Katniss demands to kill Snow. Once she receives an agreement, she votes yes, for Prim. Realizing something is up (as Katniss would never do that), Haymitch votes yes, too.
With the last killing occuring before an hour had even passed, these games shocked the Capitol audience and are the quickest in the history of the games.
Unknown to most people, President Snow poisoned others but drank the same drink as them to cover up his tracks, resulting in perpetual blood sores in his mouth. The scent of these sores are covered up by the signature white roses he is always seen carrying.
Snow was 18 during the 10th Hunger Games, making him 8 when the first Hunger Games took place. This means that during the 74th Hunger Games, he was indeed 82 (74+8). So he died at 83 in "The Mockingjay," since that was during the 75th Hunger Games...
The proposal is put to a vote amongst the victors; Peeta, Beetee, and Annie vote against, while Johanna, Enobaria, and Katniss vote in favor, leaving Haymitch as the tie breaker. He ultimately chooses to side with Katniss and votes in favor.
She does prove to be so, as she wins the 10th annual Hunger Games. However, Lucy Gray was never mentioned by name in the films or books as a winner from District 12. In fact, any and all footage of the 10th Games was erased from history.
Katniss feels betrayed, most of all by Haymitch, who used her and Peeta. Eventually she wakes to find Gale there. He's badly injured and tells her the Capitol bombed District 12 after the Games. He got Prim and Katniss's mother out in time, but the District 12 is gone.
By killing Coin, Katniss ensured a chance for a peaceful and fair country, avenged her sister's death, and liberated Panem from the fascist government. The Hunger Games franchise is still an iconic series of books and movies, with the latter truly cementing the property as an international phenomenon.
