1 Answer. This seems to be an invention of the movie. In the book it is very clear that Quirrel cannot touch Harry: Harry sprang toward the flame door, but Voldemort screamed "SEIZE HIM!" and the next second, Harry felt Quirrell's hand close on his wrist.
Harry then asks why Quirrell couldn't touch him; Dumbledore explains that the kind of love and sacrifice that Lily made in dying for Harry gives a person some protection forever. Quirrell, who is “full of hatred, greed, and ambition,” could not understand this love and “could not touch [Harry] for this reason.”
Why isn't Quirrell trying to kill Harry with his wand instead of strangling him? If you read the last chapter of Philosopher's Stone you will get the answer. Voldemort needs harry to get the stone from the mirror. After harry got the stone he tried to manipulate him into handing it over to him.

Why did Voldemort choose Professor Quirrell? Because he was handy and had come looking for him. Because Quirrell had come looking for Voldemort in that particular forest it meant that he had done some sleuthing to determine where he was.
Professor Quirrell was a temporary type of Horcrux while Voldemort inhabited his body, which is confirmed in the Wizarding World. It is possible that Voldemort created more temporary Horcruxes, such as the animals he possessed while in ghostly form.

By letting the troll into the school, he caused a distraction and knew he would have time to investigate… he just didn't foresee quite how pivotal that choice would be. The troll in the dungeon set off a whole chain of events that were crucial to the first story. It added to Snape's suspicions about Quirrell.
Snape's explanation to the Death Eaters was that he knew nothing of Voldemort's involvement, but "saw only greedy and unworthy Quirrell attempting to steal the stone." It was confirmed in Deathly Hallows that Snape had been "keeping an eye" on Quirrell on Dumbledore's orders.
At this point, McGonagall begins to gain the upper hand as it becomes clear he cannot further transfigure or counter her attack, so the only way he avoids it is by taking refuge behind a suit of armour that he forces in front of him.
Summary. As a character, Severus Snape was often misunderstood. Many believed he was a villain, and weren't convinced he was actually working for Dumbledore. Snape killed Dumbledore in an effort to protect Draco Malfo and spare him from the emotional trauma of murder.
