For example, Thor's hammer, Mjölnir, could only be wielded by those who were worthy. It's possible that Odin could have enchanted Gungnir to prevent Hela from using it, as he clearly knew how devious his daughter was. Only four characters have wielded Gungnir, which could be by design.

The God of Thunder did, however, wield Gungnir in his seventh overall Marvel Cinematic Universe appearance in Ragnarok. The spear was obtained from the dwarfs by Loki, the result of a scheme he concocted as a partial reparation for his cutting of the goddess Sif's hair. The spear is described as being so well balanced that it could strike any target, no matter the skill or strength of the wielder.
The weapon carries immense power and is the only thing that can stand up to the might of Mjölnir. Following its creation, the axe was gifted to the protector of Midgard and Giantess, Laufey. As a protector, Laufey was a fierce warrior and was often seen keeping the people of Midgard safe from the wrath of the Gods.
During the boss battle that follows, the Leviathan Axe proves to be a worthy match for Mjölnir, clashing with the hammer without shattering and even freezing a massive bolt of lightning solid when it collides with Mjölnir in midair.
Like many of the other great weapons on Norse Mythology Gungnir was made by the Dwarves, who were famous for being master craftsmen. The spear was made when Loki cut the hair of Sif, Thor's wife, without her permission. Her hair was beautiful and golden, so both her and Thor were greatly angered by Loki's actions.
While Norse mythology describes Gungnir as a spear which once thrown, will never miss it's target. However, at no point does Odin use Gungnir as a javelin within the game. Gungnir is depicted for the first time in God of War (2018) in a few Jötnar shrines, and most notably one where Odin is using it to kill Ymir.
Odin proceeded to use Gungnir to activate the Bifrost, stripping Thor of Mjølnir, his armor and his power and banishing him to New Mexico on Earth, to be found by Jane Foster and her colleagues.
Unable to kill his own daughter, Odin defeated Hela and imprisoned her using his own power to keep her at bay in another realm for eons. During this respite, Hela attempted to escape imprisonment in Hel and was near successful. Odin dispatched the female warriors known as the Valkyrie to stop her.
Odin wasn't afraid of Hela. He knew what kind of power she had, and what he feared was her destructiveness and ruthless nature. But that doesn't mean he cowered from her.
The Realm was her source of immortality. It's why she became practically unbeatable when she got there. Since Surtur was fated to destroy Asgard, Hela couldn't stop him. And since Surtur destroyed Asgard, Hela didn't have her source of power; the source of her immortality.
As such, God of War: Ragnarök emphasizes the personal rivalry between Kratos and Thor, between the Leviathan Axe and Mjölnir, in other words: between good and evil. Allowing Kratos to pick up and use Thor's Hammer would mean that the Spartan would fall back into his old ways, thus tarnishing the character's new arc.
Stormbreaker has the additional power to summon the Bifröst, allowing Thor to teleport anywhere in the Nine Realms. Screen Rant has identified Stormbreaker as the more powerful of the two, based on this ability, as well as it being a much larger and edged weapon.
The reason behind Thor's incurable wound is due to the Eitr imbued in the Leviathan Axe. In God of War, Kratos throws the weapon into the Lake of Nine and awakens the World Serpent, who rises out of the water. Jormungandr returns the Axe to Kratos by spitting it out and, in the process, covering it with his venom.
Gungnir was a Spear of Eden created by the dwarven blacksmiths Brokkr and Sindri. From its creation until the Great Catastrophe, this Piece of Eden was wielded by Odin himself before it was lost within Goinnhellir mountain near the entrance of Yggdrasil's chamber in the aftermath of Ragnarök.
The English Mjolnir comes from the Old Norse name for Thor's hammer, Mjǫllnir. Mjǫllnir is related to the Old Prussian mealde, meaning “lightning,” and the Latvian milna, meaning “hammer of the thunder god.”
The reason that's important is that being able to enchant people and objects is one of the abilities of the Odinforce, so Thor being able to do it suggests that he's inherited the Odinforce and can potentially be as powerful as Odin, if not more powerful.
Odin's enchantment on Mjolnir in the beginning of Thor made it so only those worthy could wield its power. The most plausible explanation for Hela being able to hold and destroy Mjolnir is that Odin's death weakened the enchantment and she was too powerful for it.
It is commonly stated to be one of the most powerful weapons in Norse Mythology. Mjölnir enchanted so only one worthy enough can pick it up. Mjölnir always returns to Thor's hand when he calls for it. Thor can also channel his lightning and cause thunder through it.
