Red eyes and red clouds—Ben Solo creates a lightning storm to destroy Luke Skywalker's temple as his fear, anger, and hate consume him. To Solo, his uncle had betrayed him and proved his worst fears about his family were true; Skywalker had reacted to his nephew's darkness with a momentary thought of killing him.
Eventually, after sensing the dark side in Ben, Luke was tempted to kill him, which was the final push for Ben to turn to the dark side after being corrupted by Darth Sidious and Snoke for more than a decade. Ben sought Snoke and later became the master of the Knights of Ren, causing Luke to hide himself into exile.
Reclaiming his identity as Ben Solo, the redeemed Jedi joined Rey on Exegol to save her from Sidious and defeat him once and for all, though the effort took Rey's life. When Solo sacrificed himself to revive Rey, he died and became one with the Force, joining his parents, uncle, and grandfather.
For all we know, Leia specifically channeled her own life force into Ben, helping Rey along and sacrificing herself in the process. That may be why Leia finally dies and fades away at the moment Ben revives Rey and fades away himself. When Ben dies, any tether Leia still had to the living world went with him.
It was believed that Grogu would eventually become a victim of Kylo Ren's destruction of Luke's Jedi Order. However, The Book of Boba Fett revealed that Grogu chose to follow the Way of the Mandalorian rather than become a Jedi, sparing him from Kylo Ren's wrath.

But this is actually a very sad reason because it actually had the opposite effect, and he deeply regretted his decision to kill his father and it haunted him for the rest of the trilogy. Also, Han was telling him that Snoke was using him, but one of the reasons he killed him was to impress Snoke.
While they may not have had romantic love for each other, they became close enough that Rey would miss him after his death. The kiss at the end of The Rise of Skywalker was a goodbye to a friend who would be dearly missed.
