In order for Harry to be lured into believing that he needed to save the Stone from a thief, he had to be made aware that it existed. Hagrid, being a blundering oaf who was incapable of keeping a secret, was ordered to retrieve the Stone whilst Harry was accompanying him precisely so that Harry would find out about it.

Why did Voldemort want the philosopher's stone if he has horcruxes?
While Voldemort was thwarted by three eleven-year-olds, he did not die at the end of the book because something that isn't fully alive cannot be killed. Overall, Voldemort was desperate to get his hands on the Stone to restore his body, his power and to try to find a way to beat death.
During 1991–1992 school year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Lord Voldemort made attempts to steal the Stone for his own purposes. The final, and almost successful, attempt resulted in a skirmish for possession of the Stone.
At the beginning of the Battle of Hogwarts, the Death Eaters invaded the home of the Acromantula and drove them to attack the school. When the spiders attacked, Hagrid ran forwards to protect them. Acromantula are horribly strong, so it is likely that they captured him and took him to Lord Voldemort.
