Though the family is kind to her, she is treated like an outsider. Her daughter Drizella's continued distance and her jealousy at Mark's devotion to Cecilia cause Rapunzel to grow dark and take what she wants by force.
Gothel reluctantly releases her. However, Flynn unexpectedly cuts Rapunzel's hair, causing it to lose its magic and turn brown. Failing to salvage the hair, Gothel falls from the tower's window and disintegrates into dust.
Throughout the story, Gothel's goal is to keep Rapunzel in a hidden tower forever in order to take advantage of the healing powers within the lost princess's hair.

The witch takes Rapunzel to a barren place. The Prince is blinded by thorns when he jumps out of the tower to get away from the witch. Eventually, they find each other. By then, Rapunzel has given birth to twins.
A: Mother Gothel in Disney's Tangled. In this re-telling of the classic Rapunzel story, Mother Gothel is a narcissistic, emotionally abusive sorceress who abducts the infant Rapunzel from her crib. Mother Gothel raises Rapunzel as her own, isolating her in a hidden tower to control Rapunzel and her magical hair.
Instead, Gothel exercises control over Rapunzel by playing on her fears. Now, it's possible that Gothel feels some fondness for Rapunzel. But based on her actions, she clearly does not love Rapunzel at all. Rapunzel is someone who ultimately must be put up with in order maintain what Gothel really loves more than anything: herself.
To ensure she keeps her new magic flower hidden, Mother Gothel refuses to let Rapunzel go outside, lying and telling her the world is a dangerous place where selfish people would try to hurt her and steal her hair to use her gift for themselves, while ironically, using her for her desperate need to stay young.
What was Rapunzel's real name before she was taken?
Rapunzel's real story is said to have been loosely based on a true story about a woman, Saint Barbara, in Italy around the 3rd century. The story of Barbara was that she was so beautiful that her father felt he had to lock her in a tower to protect her.
According to the Brothers Grimm, Princess Rapunzel is named after the cultivated vegetable of the same name, growing in a witch's garden. The wording of the story suggested to me that the Grimms' contemporaries would be familiar with the plant as a vegetable, that it wasn't a fantastical invented thing.
They were given an official number in the franchise line-up based on the chronological order in which their films were released, starting with Snow White as the first and original Disney Princess, with Cinderella being the second, followed by Aurora and so on.
