Despite being a robot who follows the order of his crew, TARS is quite intelligent and is capable of acting on his own. Unlike his crewmate CASE he's much more of an extrovert and talkative. He suspected the possibility of Mann betraying the crew and disabled the auto-pilot to prevent Mann from stealing the Endurance.
In order to save humanity from extinction, Cooper sacrifices himself alongside his robotic companion TARS to shed weight so that his colleague Amelia Brand (Anne Hathaway) can complete the mission on her own to the planet Edmunds.
Mann explains that he had to decommission the robot because it began to malfunction by misidentifying organic life as ammonia. We soon learn that the robot correctly identified the absence of organic life on the planet, and its insistence on not sending back a false message resulted in Dr.

Mann is an example of humanity's selfish nature – his surname is a not-particularly-subtle bit of signposting – as he deliberately manipulates his data to pretend that his ammonia-filled planet is habitable. He sabotages Coop's crew purely to escape from the planet and make it back to Earth.
Quite simply, a "Tar" is a sailor. Centuries ago, during the age of tall sailing ships, British sailors were known as "Tars." Rollins connection with the Tars began in World War I when a small Navy vessel was stationed on Lake Virginia, which borders half the Rollins campus.
TARS was then shot into the Gargantua black hole to collect quantum data that could save humanity by solving the issue of gravity, as well as to help the Endurance out of Gargantua's pull. TARS gets lost inside the tesseract along with Cooper, but manages to contact Cooper and tell him about the Tesseract.
She had a drive to explore and discover the unknown, very much like her mother. Suffice it to say she did not like her name, as it had the connotation that she was the harbinger of bad luck. However Cooper reinforced the idea that her name is in reality a call to hope.

Brand : Why didn't you sleep? Romilly : Oh, I had a couple of stretches. I stopped believing you were coming back. Something seemed wrong about dreaming my life away.
TARS relays the quantum data to Cooper in Morse code. Cooper in turn relays the quantum data to Murph, in Morse code, through the hands of a wrist watch. Murph somehow knows it's her father relaying quantum data to her through the watch.
They awaken Mann from cryostasis, and he fills them with the hope that the planet he discovered could support human life. However, he privately reveals to Cooper that this is a lie. He falsified the data so that NASA would send a crew to rescue him.
Why is Cooper younger than Murph at the end of the movie?
