What was the War of Wrath during the fall of the Beleriand?
The War of Wrath, or the Great Battle, was the final conflict in the Wars of Beleriand fought between the Host of the West and the forces of Morgoth. The devastation caused by the two sides clashing left Beleriand mostly destroyed and in the end most of the land sank beneath the waves.
Originally known as Melkor, Morgoth is essentially the Lucifer of Tolkien's story. Like the devil, Morgoth was one of the first children created by the God of Tolkien's world, but succumbed to jealousy and greed, especially over the creation of other races, and was duly disowned by his fellow Valar.

However, after centuries of prosperity many of the inhabitants ceased to worship the One God, Eru Ilúvatar, and rebelled against the Valar, resulting in the destruction of the island and the death of most of its people. Tolkien intended Númenor to allude to the legendary Atlantis.
In the First Age, there was this area of Middle-earth called Beleriand up near what's called Lindon in the show. Beleriand is utterly destroyed toward the end of the First Age, which is why it's not on most Middle-earth maps you've seen.
Númenor was a kingdom of Men, established on an island that was brought up out of the sea by the Valar in the early Second Age, after the final ruin of Beleriand. The culture of the Númenóreans originated there shortly afterwards.
Maeglin resisted at first, but eventually decided to betray Gondolin when Morgoth promised him riches, the crown of Gondolin, and Idril's hand in marriage.
The Elf Ecthelion leads the charge against the Orcs, and fights Gothmog, the greatest Balrog; they wound each other and both fall into the king's fountain in Gondolin; both drown.
The location of the elven kingdom of Gondolin eluded Morgoth for centuries. He knew it existed but, until a traitor revealed it to him, he could never discover it. This was due to its secluded mountainous location, secret point of entry, and a strict policy of allowing no foreigners to enter.
Eventually, Morgoth was bound in chains by the Valar and thrown into the Void, leaving the permanent damage his evils had done, and his former lieutenant Sauron, to trouble the world. One day, according to a prophecy, Morgoth will rise again in great wrath, but he will be destroyed in the Dagor Dagorath.
The other two gems remained in Morgoth's hands, and were taken from him only at the end of the War of Wrath. However, soon afterwards, they were stolen by Fëanor's two sons Maedhros and Maglor. The jewels burned their hands, in refusal of their rights of possession, as they had burned Morgoth's hands many years before.
For The Rings of Power, Númenórian hatred of Elves built over time out of jealously for their immortality. In The Silmarillion, Tolkien outlines the downfall of Númenor as a slow burn that began with the Ban of the Valar, which entailed the first Númenórians agreeing to never sail west toward Valinor.
I think it's probably fair to say that the Dunadain of both Arnor and Gondor considered themselves Numenoreans in exile. Aragorn himself told Arwen on his deathbed that he was “the last Numenorean”.
The Downfall of Númenor, also called the Fall or Drowning of Númenor, was the utter destruction of the island of Númenor, a divine punishment by Eru Ilúvatar to the Númenóreans for breaking the Ban of the Valar.
If it had not fallen, the War of Wrath would have not taken place, Morgoth would still be there poisoning Middle-Earth. Eventually all land except Gondolin itself would have been turned into a cursed barren desert, and, in turn, the elven city would have fallen anyway, but perhaps too late for any redemption.
The Valar exile him permanently from the world, thrusting him through the Door of Night into the void, excluding him from Arda until the prophesied Dagor Dagorath, when he will meet his final destruction. His evil remains, however, and his will influences all living creatures.
Fingolfin, receiving false news, rode alone to Angband and challenged Morgoth to single combat. He wounded Morgoth several times, but grew weary and was killed by the immortal Vala. Fingolfin has inspired artists, musicians and video game designers to create depictions of his deeds.
It was said that Morgoth hated and feared the House of Fingolfin most among the Houses of the sons of Finwë, especially Fingolfin's son Turgon, as it was prophesied that his doom would come from the House of Turgon.
His most direct legacy would be that of his second-in-command, Sauron, who took up the mantle of Dark Lord following his master's fall. Sauron would command many of the same forces that Morgoth had created in his time. Morgoth was the bringer of evil and darkness onto Middle-earth.
In the end Tolkien stated that there were probably "at most" seven Balrogs: In the margin my father wrote: 'There should not be supposed more than say 3 or at most 7 ever existed. '
