As a test, Yoda deliberately acted looney and tried to get on Luke's nerves, rummaging through Luke's belongings and attacking R2-D2 with his walking stick.
A story called “The First Lesson”, written by Jim Zub, explains that Yoda did in fact recognise the droid, but chose to remain silent. “Carefully moving through the swamp while staying beneath the fog, Yoda soon spotted the boy and his droid unpacking their supplies,” reads the passage.
R2-D2 has probably seen more action than all of the sequel characters put together, and has met a long list of Jedi from across time, including master Yoda.

Why did R2 have Luke's lightsaber?
Three months after the Battle of Endor, Skywalker used the lightsaber during a mission to an Imperial research base on the planet Vetine in order to retrieve the last remaining fragment of a Force-sensitive tree. Skywalker gave his lightsaber to R2-D2 for hiding as they entered the Imperial base.
Luke hid his lightsaber inside R2-D2's dome during his mission to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt, and surrendered the weapon to Darth Vader as part of his effort to reawaken the spirit of Anakin Skywalker.
A smart, spunky droid who would serve a multitude of masters over his lifetime, R2-D2 was never given a full memory wipe nor did he ever receive new programming, with these factors resulting in an adventurous and independent attitude.

Since Obi-Wan had been in hiding, going by the name Ben Kenobi, he admitted that he was actually Obi-Wan. However, he denied owning R2-D2, acting as if he was not familiar with the droid.
The Invasion of Naboo. R2-D2 repairs the shield generator of Queen Amidala's Royal Starship. In 32 BBY, R2-D2 was in the possession of the Royal Engineers of Naboo, and was assigned aboard Queen Amidala's Royal Starship as a maintenance droid.
When Order 66 happens in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, R2-D2 is confirmed to be on Coruscant. The movie doesn't show him during the actual executions of the Jedi, but he is shown to be on Anakin Skywalker's ship when he arrives at Padmé Amidala's house immediately after.

The sequence calls back to a similar scene in Revenge of the Sith, when Bail Organa orders Threepio's memory be erased to prevent him from sharing information about Anakin Skywalker's fall to the dark side.
Maybe R2-D2 didn't know Darth Vader was Luke's father because he didn't see Palpatine christening him Vader, or maybe he believed Anakin was dead because even Obi-Wan didn't know Anakin was alive.
What's going on: Anthony Daniels, who plays the C-3PO role in all of the nine Skywalker saga films, recently told HuffPost that he wasn't sure why Obi-Wan Kenobi didn't know C-3PO. He said it's possible Obi-Wan knew too many droids.
