Why There Were No Dwarvish Nazgûl. After giving nine rings to the race of Men, Sauron gifted seven to the Dwarf Lords -- but nothing happened. The rings made the Dwarves greedier, but they didn't change physically, nor did they become Ringwraiths. On top of that, Sauron found out he couldn't control the ring bearers.
The dwarves of Middle-Earth were notoriously strong willed, able to resist corruption and stay true to their purpose. Sauron had no means by which to corrupt them regardless of how he tried.
The Nazgûl (Black Speech: Ringwraiths, sometimes written Ring-wraiths), also known as the Nine Riders or Black Riders (or simply the Nine), were Sauron's "most terrible servants" in Middle-earth. They were mortal Men who had been turned into wraiths by their Nine Rings of power.
Simply put, he was the only one available. There were only two dwarves at the council of Elrond, Gimli and his father Gloin. The Dwarves were fighting Sauron's forces constantly in their own campaign and couldn't spare many. Gloin was also much older now, it was absolutely his son's turn to go on a big journey.
Gimli didn't know about Moria's fate because there had been no communication between Erebor and Moria for 25 years, and the Dwarves were hopeful and did not want to accept failure until there was certain news.
Though Gimli has no children, he is not the last Dwarf of Middle-earth. After the fall of Sauron, his people continued to thrive in the Lonely Mountain. Gimli made his home in Rohan, in the Glittering Caves of Aglarond, and many of his kinsfolk came with him.
After he was attacked by the orcs, they transported his lifeless body to Mordor at Sauron's behest. Sauron revived Isildur with one of the nine rings, and then tortured him until his spirit was broken and he became a Nazgûl.
Many Tolkien scholars also identify the Witch-king as one of the three Black Númenóreans who Tolkien stated had become Nazgûl; in particularly, many theorize that Isilmo, a Númenórean prince and father of Tar-Minastir, could possibly be the man who became the Witch-king of Angmar.
Bottom line, Aragorn was not factored into their calculus. They were looking for Hobbits, not a Numenorean strongman who at that point, they had little to no clue who he was. The effort it would take to kill him was more trouble than it was worth, so….
in the same way that the Nazgul are afraid of him and Glorfindel, as they exist in both realms and can physically harm them, they can physically harm him. Sure he can fight them in the shire, far from their master, but as the fight gets closer to Mordor their power increases.
To start, both of the characters are undoubtedly strong. The Witch-king was named Lord of the Nazgûl. A ghostly wraith, the Witch-king is stronger than most of Sauron's followers and conquered much of Middle-earth for the Dark Lord. However, Gandalf is still far more powerful.
Firstly, he would not be much use in battle. And second, he wanted the Ring as much as Sauron did. Therefore, the Ring and Sauron would've not seen the point in making Gollum like the Nazgûl when he could serve their interests as he was. Gollum also might have been like the Dwarves, not fully corrupted by the One Ring.
Indeed, the rings did not even turn them invisible; and the Dwarves were immune to some of the rings' more detrimental effects. It is believed that the Dwarves' natural hardiness, and the fact that it was only the more powerful Dwarf lords who possessed them, made them resistant to Sauron's control.
Sauron seemed to genuinely feel a connection to her, and part of that came from sensing the darkness inside of Galadriel. In that regard, his offer was really a seduction to the dark side.
The Witch-King's Helmet was worn by the Lord of the Nazgûl, the Black Captain, Lord of Minas Morgul who is better known as the Witch-King of Angmar. He was possibly an ancient Númenorean Lord or King who slowly but surely fell to the will of Sauron after he received a Ring of Power by the Lord of Gifts; Annatar.
The Lord of the Nazgûl appears as the Witch-king of Angmar during the Third Age and is instrumental in the destruction of the Northern kingdom of Arnor. in his notes for translators, Tolkien suggested that the Witch-king of Angmar, ruler of a Northern kingdom with its capital at Carn Dûm, was of Númenórean origin.
Fear was the Witch-king's greatest weapon, and only the bravest could withstand his advance, yet more earthly tools he bore also: scythes, halberds, long knives, a great flail, and a wicked sword wrought of cursed steel.
As his "lifeforce" is imbude in the ring which prevents him from going into the Elven afterlife, and as such keeps him in the mortal plane. But he is a wraith in the first game, before his new ring is ever created. The ritual done to Tallion at the beginning of Shadow of Mordor summoned Celebrimbor into Tallion's body.
Besides not having the will to destroy the Ring, pushing Isildur into Mount Doom would have had some practical consequences. In another passage from The Silmarillion, Elrond and Círdan counseled Isildur to destroy the Ring, but he refused, saying, "This I will have as weregild for my father's death, and my brother's.
According to one theory (via Stack Exchange), Gimli did not know about the fall of Moria in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring movie due, effectively, to poor communication.
The origin(s) of orcs were explained two different ways (i.e., inconsistently) by Tolkien: the orcs were either East Elves (Avari) enslaved, tortured, and bred by Morgoth (as Melkor became known), or, "perhaps ... Avari [(a race of elves)] ... [turned] evil and savage in the wild", both according to The Silmarillion.
Gimli was born in the Ered Luin in the Third Age, son of Glóin. Gimli had wanted to accompany his father on the quest to reclaim Erebor, but at age 62 he was deemed too young. He was a remote descendant of Durin the Deathless, chief of the Seven Fathers of the Dwarves and ancestor of the Longbeards.
