Cho's lingering feelings for Cedric and a lack of chemistry between her and Harry contributed to their breakup, leading to Harry ultimately ending up with Ginny Weasley.

If this prologue had taken place less than 19 years after the battle, it would be implied that Rowling's protagonists had children in their early years of adulthood, which likely isn't the story she wanted.
