Clothing. Little apparel is worn by the Na'vi. Cloth, most likely woven from native flora of the planet is the basic garment worn by all Na'vi. It is possible that very little clothing is worn by the Na'vi because it is simply what is needed for the Na'vi to work and live taking minimally from the environment.
In the first film, only Na'vi women wore leggings: Neytiri wore them during the Iknimaya, as well as in the battle for the Tree of Souls. The Tayrangi Clan leader Ikeyni was also shown to have worn these clothes throughout the film.
“For the most part, they use their environment to create their clothing — shells, in our case,” Scott says of the reef clan. “Shells are highly decorative and fun to work with.” Scott and her team also used natural fibers; emulated seagrass, seaweed and corals; and incorporated feathers and skins into the looks.
Although the Na'vi possess a neural whip like most other creatures, it is most often hidden under a layer of hair that is painstakingly braided around the queue to protect it. This braid starts at birth and is maintained throughout a Na'vi's life.

Why do the avatars have dreadlocks?
In the construction of the Na'vi species, there are undeniable influences from Black and Indigenous cultures. Both films show Na'vi characters depicted wearing dreadlocks and braids, hairstyles with historical connections to Black and African cultures.
