She's kept herself from crying so that she won't show weakness on camera, but she wonders if Peeta wants to appear weak on purpose so that the other tributes will underestimate him.
Katniss spends the rest of the day crying on her bed. She believes that the Gamemakers will punish her for what she's done, that they'll make her an Avox and cut out her tongue. She imagines all of the possible scenarios, but is most fearful that the Capitol people will go after Prim and her mother.
Out of frustration, Katniss targets the apple in the roasted pig's mouth, successfully hitting it, causing reactions of shock and amazement among the Gamemakers. Katniss is, at first, outraged at her own behavior, later thinking she shouldn't have shot the pig, crying in her bed.

In the end, Katniss and Gale grew apart, as many childhood friends and young loves do.
