There, they find Nemo, apparently dead (Nemo was actually faking it in an attempt to escape). Saddened, Marlin leaves for home, leaving Dory behind despite her claims that her memory is better with him.
Dory had met Nemo and soon remembered everything, leading him to Marlin. Marlin happily reunites with his son, but the moment is cut short when Dory is caught in a fishing net. Marlin watches as Nemo is able to successfully rescue her with skills he learned while in the tank at the dentist's office.
One of the best parts about their friendship is that they were opposites. Marlin was passive-aggressive and pessimistic, while Dory was optimistic. Dory had every reason to be as down-in-the-dumps but she only focused on the good. While the two were on their way to Sydney, they ended up getting lost and needing help.
Marlin, accompanied by his new friend Dory, swam across the ocean to find his son, and he was ultimately successful. Marlin and Nemo returned to their home in the Great Barrier Reef, and all was well, but the journey to the ending in the 2003 Pixar movie was quite treacherous.
The two bring out the best in each other, challenge each other, and help each other grow. Through the adventure, Dory helps Marlin learns how to trust and let go. While, for Dory, she admits, “I remember things better with you. I look at you, and I… and I'm home,” to Marlin.
Marlin proves to be emotionally disabled from the traumatic loss of his wife, and eggs. “Like many single parents who have survived a tragedy, Marlin turns neurotically overprotective of his son (Germain, 2003)”. Marlin helps represent the struggle with chronic anxiety, and the effect it has on relationships.
Nemo. Dory has a motherly relationship with Nemo. When the two met, she was relieved to find someone with kindness, and offered to help him look for his father, although she didn't remember she was looking for him too.
On coral reefs, “Dory,” the small vibrant blue fish with black stripes and a yellow tail, is known by several other names: Hippo Tang, Royal Blue Tang, Regal Tang, Palette Surgeonfish and by the scientific name Paracanthurus hepatus.
When life gets you down do you know what you've gotta do? Marlin : No, I don't know what to do. Dory : [singing] Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.
In the finale's epilogue, which was set in a post-outbreak New York, Dory and Drew got married in an abandoned Broadway theatre with Portia and Elliott as their witnesses.
Dory, along with her parents and new friends, returns to the reef with Marlin and Nemo. Hank begins to adapt a happy lifestyle in the ocean and also becomes a teacher for Nemo's school.
In the final scene, Dory and Drew stage the world's saddest wedding in an abandoned Broadway theater with Elliott and Portia doubling as witnesses and entertainment. The friends know they enable each other, but they're also stuck together for eternity.
In a flashback Dory hears her mother crying in fears of being relocated to another aquarium, so she left to retrieve a shell to cheer her up, to which she was pulled away by an undertow current out into the ocean.
Marlin is Nemo's father, who is careful, meticulous, and sometimes too jumpy and anxious for his son's liking. He named Nemo's smaller fin, his lucky fin, which happened when Marlin found Nemo's egg cracked after the barracuda attack.
Andrew Stanton wrote and directed the film. The inspiration for Finding Nemo sprang from multiple experiences, going back to director Andrew Stanton's childhood, when he loved going to the dentist to see the fish tank, assuming that the fish were from the ocean and wanted to go home.
Dory suffers from severe short-term memory loss, but a lot of what she goes through can be adapted to other contexts, such as the world, or ocean, of ADHD. Dory has trouble with multi-step directions, is easily distracted, and is very impulsive.
It's quite obvious that Dory has anterograde amnesia, which is the inability to form new memories. I also see many of the signs of ADHD within the character.
Dory, a gender-neutral name with a positively glowing demeanor, comes from the Greek Dorothy, meaning “gift of God,” and Dorris, meaning “gift” and “gift from the sea.” A true testament to your love, baby Dory will always be reminded how they are a cherished godsend.
That's right, we're talking about the opening scene in the movie, where a giant barracuda attacks the home of Nemo's dad, Marlin, and ends up eating Nemo's mom and all of his future brothers and sisters. It's heartbreaking, tragic and a reminder to why Marlin is so protective over his only son, Nemo.
Nemo is an Ocellaris Clownfish that generally stays small and requires a minimum tank size of only 20 gallons. In order for the larger Dory to join Nemo, the tank must be a minimum of 125 gallons.
