Gollum (who was tortured by Sauron in person) tells Frodo that Sauron has, at least, a "Black Hand" with four fingers. The missing finger was cut off when Isildur took the Ring, and the finger was still missing when Sauron reappeared centuries later.
History. Unable to assume a fair form, Sauron's hand was blackened after the death of his body in the Fall of Númenor. After Isildur cut his ring-finger off with the shards of his father's sword, Sauron's one hand had four remaining fingers.
In the next version of this part of the story Isildur himself appears, first named Ithildor, then changed to Isildor. He is described as a man who cut the One Ring from Sauron's finger after his father (here named Orendil) defeated Sauron in single combat, then lost it while swimming across a river to escape Orcs.

Because Sauron lost his Ring, his power severely diminished, and it took him thousands of years to rebuild his power. Even after Sauron declared himself again, his sole focus was on finding the Ring, not on solidifying his dominion.
Sauron's deepest fear was that Aragorn would use the Ring against him. With its powers of domination, Aragorn could comfortably take over the entirety of Sauron's dark army. Though this would eventually corrupt Aragorn, it would allow him to destroy Sauron and take his place.
Though wizards are technically Maiar, they do not possess all the same abilities in their wizard forms. This is why, despite Balrogs and Sauron also being Maiar, Gandalf wasn't evenly matched in his wizarding form—especially as Gandalf the Grey.

Sauron was originally a shape-shifting fallen angel and could take on various forms, including a vampire and a werewolf. Sauron's final form was terrifying and demonic, reflecting his own hate and evil, and he did not wear armor in the books.
In Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Isildur is shown to have become a Nazgûl after his death at the Gladden Fields, when Sauron places one of the Nine rings on his finger, which resurrects him.
While the book version of Sauron is Pure Evil, due to being a manipulative sadist, which was shown in The Silmarillion, his lack of personality and motives in both the Ralph Bakshi and Rankin-Bass movies renders him not even close to qualifying in those versions.
Besides not having the will to destroy the Ring, pushing Isildur into Mount Doom would have had some practical consequences. In another passage from The Silmarillion, Elrond and Círdan counseled Isildur to destroy the Ring, but he refused, saying, "This I will have as weregild for my father's death, and my brother's.
Why did Sauron explode when the Ring was cut off his finger?
So, to make it as strong as possible, Sauron imbued it with a substantial part of his soul. As a result, his fate was bound to the One Ring, and if it were ever to be damaged or destroyed, Sauron's power and strength would be destroyed along with it.

Only Sauron or someone similar in power and experience with the Ring would be able to wield its full power. Varying powers or effects of the Ring are seen in the wielder depending on their power, skill, abilities, natural capacity, and situation.
Assuming the One Ring was destroyed, Galadriel's ring would also start to fade, causing Lothlórien to lose its glory and magic. So, when Galadriel refused the One Ring, she wasn't just sacrificing her desire to rule. She knew that she was sacrificing her kingdom and its well-being for the sake of peace in Middle-earth.

Additionally, while he was in his weakened state, Galadriel could hold him off through the power of will alone. However, if Sauron had his One Ring and faced off in a battle against Galadriel, it's unlikely that there would be much she could do.
Characters who can easily defeat Sauron are; his Creator Eru Ilúvatar, his old master Melkor, and the Valar. Others who could overcome him would be Ungoliant who physically dwarfed Morgoth, and some great Maiar of Valinor described as almost as great in power as the Valar themselves.
