He was banished to Qward, the anti-matter universe's version of Oa. That's where the trouble really began. Once on Qward, Sinestro showed no remorse for his actions. Instead, he felt betrayed by the Guardians and his hate for them grew.
It is more than a desire for revenge against the Green Lantern Corps that has caused Sinestro to especially hate and strike at Hal Jordan. It is far more personal. Jordan was not corrupted by the ring as Sinestro was. Jordan was hailed as the greatest Green Lantern of them all.
On top of that, his wife was killed by the Manhunters, who were the predecessors to the Green Lanterns and were created by the guardians. This drives him mad and he becomes a tyrannical dictator trying to re-establish order to save his people by any means necessary.
He hates the Guardians, for good reason, as they accidentally massacred his entire home sector. Also holds a deep hatred for Sinestro and his corps. In fact most of the Red Lanterns are victims of the Sinestro Corps' activities.

What we learn through their story is that Hal and Sinestro have similarities and differences that make up their unique friendship, and bonds them as each other's greatest foe but also their greatest ally.
The impurity made the rings and their constructs unable to affect things that were yellow. Later it became the 'color or fear' (and of Parallax the entity of fear) which could defeat the green willpower energy.
As a result, Sinestro was brought before the Guardians and banished to Qward. There, he plotted his revenge by allying himself with the Weaponers of Qward who created a yellow power ring for so he can face and outnumber the Guardians and the Green Lanterns as the leader and namesake of the Sinestro Corps.
Qwsp was for many years a valued ally of the undersea monarch. Grodd was an inhabitant of Gorilla City, a peaceful society of super-intelligent gorillas of which Grodd was the only evil one. A mastermind in his early years with vast mental powers, he has become more savage and stronger recently, to the point where he wants to "feast on the bones" of the Flash.
But the Red Ring chooses her for a reason, and all of her pent-up anger over the loss of Supergirl's people is channeled into her Lantern powers. The Ring chooses her because she doesn't know her own power and has been stewing in rage for a very long time.
Weaknesses. The Red Lantern Corps power rings do not work near the Blue Lantern Power Ring. Blue Energy: As a Red Lantern, he is rendered powerless in presence of Blue Energy. However he is capable of feeling rage enough to overcome this weakness and use his powers the most of its capabilities.
