After Maleficent discovers that Stefan took her wings so that he would be king, she becomes angry and glows green. Lightning sparks begin to fly off her.
In the first Maleficent movie, Stefan becomes Maleficent's first love, but after she fights against the King's Army the king orders for someone to kill her in order to become the heir to the throne. Stefan goes to do this but instead just takes her wings and pretends that he killed her.

Background. In the Enchanted Forest, presumably, Maleficent's dragon form mates with another dragon which results in her becoming pregnant and eventually having a daughter named Lilith, or "Lily".
Later, Stefan betrays Maleficent and steals her wings so he could claim that he killed her and become king. After the painful loss of her wings, Maleficent becomes enraged over his treachery, and as her heart of gold turns to stone, she becomes the evilest magical being in the land.
Stefan was a certified "blood addict" due to his addiction to blood. When he consumed large amounts of human blood, his attitude changed and he became unstable, volatile, unpredictable, and destructive. He often shuts off his humanity and emotions to block his suffering, guilt, and pain.
Maleficent forgives him and the two strike up a friendship that lasts for several years. On Maleficent's sixteenth birthday, Stefan gives her "true love's kiss," but then abandons her to pursue his thirst for power in the King's inner circle.
Some time later, Diaval informs Maleficent about the christening of Stefan's newborn daughter, Aurora. Maleficent arrives uninvited and curses the infant princess, declaring that by her 16th birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into an eternal sleep.
And over time, they grew to love each other to the point that he gifted her with the only thing he could afford to give her on her sixteenth birthday: a true love's kiss. Soon after though, Stefan left to seek his fortune and consequently chose to live among the humans over being with Maleficent in the Moors.
Maleficent confirms that Aurora will grow in grace and beauty, "beloved by all who know her", but as revenge for not being invited by the kingdom, she curses Aurora so that before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel's spindle and die.
On Maleficent's sixteenth birthday, Stefan kissed her. However, after some period of time after this, he didn't come to see Maleficent. Stefan later betrayed her and stole her wings, so he would be able to become the new king. Stefan later married Leila, Henry's daughter, and she became his wife and queen.
She was called "Beastie" by Maleficent. At first, Maleficent hated Aurora, but Maleficent soon had developed a close bond with her, so she now calls Aurora "Beastie" as a nickname and a sign of affection towards her. Aurora was only able to wear her signature pink dress in the second film.
Julian appears and asks about Maria. Stefan tells him that Maria is dead, and Julian starts a fight with Stefan where he ends up killing him by ripping his heart out.
