Still not fully trusting him, Katniss remained extremely wary of his every move. Katniss was suspicious of what motivated him to retrieve Peeta from his platform and offered to do it herself, but Finnick alluded to her false pregnancy and carried Peeta, who couldn't swim, to shore.
At first, Finnick appears to be another shallow puppet of the Capitol's. She says that she's never been attracted to him and that is possibly because she has found him too easy to lose. This recalls the theme of trust in that Katniss doesn't want to believe Finnick is someone to rely on.
As they walk, Katniss wonders why Finnick didn't just let Peeta die. She is angry at him because she now owes him for saving Peeta's life — she can never kill him now.
Katniss however wanted to kill Finnick, because she didn't want to befriend anyone, knowing she wanted Peeta to win the Games. However, Finnick does something that makes Katniss unable to kill him. He saves Peeta's life, and Katniss knows she will never stop owing him.
He says it's lucky they're allies, and just before Katniss looses an arrow she spots a bangle on his wrist. It's the one Effie gave Haymitch when training began, and Katniss understands Haymitch meant it as a sign that she should trust Finnick.

Did Finnick ever like Katniss?
Finnick was close friends with Johanna Mason and fairly good allies with Katniss, Peeta, Wiress, and Beetee. He became a closer friend to Katniss in Mockingjay. He married Annie Cresta and the pair had one son together who was born after Finnick's death.
Finnick learned many secrets, including that Snow, in his rise to power, poisoned his adversaries but to divert suspicion often drank from the same poisoned cup followed by an antidote that only Snow used. Segments of the propo of Katniss and Finnick are aired.
The Big Picture. Finnick Odair is a standout supporting character in The Hunger Games franchise, with a well-rounded personality and a significant role in the story. In the case of Johanna, they each hated each other because that was what the Capitol had taught them to do. They were from competing Districts, and the idea of the Games was to keep the lesser citizens of Panem distrustful of one another and unwilling to form alliances (or raise arms in war).
Even if Gale didn't intend to murder Prim specifically, he certainly intended to murder somebody. The two-phase bombs that he and Beetee invented were very clearly made with the intent of targeting medics and other civilians trying to save those wounded during the first phase of bombing.

Also, Mags was Finnick's mentor, and most likely helped mentor Annie. They would have all lived together in the District 4 Victors' Village. Much like how Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch became family, it is probable Mags, Annie, and Finnick did as well, so Mags may have felt a maternal kinship towards the younger two.
At an unknown point in time years before the 74th Hunger Games, she was personally fired by Snow, the stated reason being due to her being too surgically enhanced.
