The Banshees of Inisherin Is a Microcosm of the Irish Civil War. The Irish Civil War was a conflict between the Irish Republican Army and the government forces of the newly formed Irish Free State. The IRA was opposed to the formation of the Free State, which had made Ireland a dominion of the British Empire.
Barry Keoghan, who plays a youth possibly on the autism spectrum, is terrific as Dominic. It is he who is sharper (and kinder) about life's fallacies, accepting the bad hand he has been dealt by gods of fate.
