After finding his planet's conditions to be promising for human life, Edmunds sent a "thumbs up" signal back to NASA on Earth. He subsequently settled into hypersleep and awaited to be rescued. During this time, a rockslide occurred and destroyed his landing pod, causing Edmunds' death.
After the slingshot maneuver around Gargantua, Brand became the second human astronaut to land on Edmunds, accompanied by CASE, who discovered that the eponymous astronaut perished in a rock slide many years prior. Dr. Brand tearfully buried him near her compound with his hypersleep pod tag that read: DR.
The planet is named after Dr. Edmunds, who was the first astronaut to land there. Endmunds is a habitable planet and this was verified by Dr. Wolf Edmunds, which was sent by NASA, with other twelve astronauts (the Lazarus missions), to explore that planet.
How did Cooper know the brand was in love with Edmunds?
Roughly 10 years prior to the launch of Endurance, she and Particle Physicist Dr. Wolf Edmunds, had fallen in love. Cooper had suspected her feelings towards Edmunds when discussing the destinations they were heading to, knowing that her affection towards Wolf would make her biased to his planet.
Brand was alive, starting the plan B alone somewhere. All Murphy knows is that Cooper somehow sent messages to her. Since she completed the equation, she can infer Cooper saw what's beyond the Event Horizon. She can also infer he most likely fell into the black hole.
Brand is on his deathbed and after Murph finds out that he thought the equation was unsolvable, she asks, "Did my father know? Did he leave me?" then Brand says, "Do not go gentle." Why? Well, in practical life, I would guess it was the random murmering of a man almost dead.
On his deathbed, Professor Brand confesses to Murph that he lied about his Plan A's prospects – that he failed to “reconcile relativity to quantum mechanics” and his gravity project needs much more data. She takes on the project herself and beams out the bad news to space, where Coop and Amelia receive it.
Professor Brand considered Plan A to be impossible because in order to solve his gravity equation, he would need unobtainable data from the Singularity of a black hole. Professor Brand went to great efforts to conceal this fact from everybody, including his daughter Amelia and Murph.
After escaping Mann's planet, Cooper and Brand have insufficient fuel left to reach Edmunds' planet. At the cost of 51 years due to time dilation, they use a slingshot manoeuvre around Gargantua, with Cooper and TARS jettisoning them to shed enough weight to escape Gargantua's gravity and get Brand to Edmunds' planet.
TARS relays the quantum data to Cooper in Morse code. Cooper in turn relays the quantum data to Murph, in Morse code, through the hands of a wrist watch. Murph somehow knows it's her father relaying quantum data to her through the watch.
It is then revealed that he and Professor Brand knew that Plan A was impossible and that the only contingency that allowed for human continuity was Plan B. Mann did not want Cooper to return to Earth with the Endurance, as he now needed it to reach Edmunds' planet with the remaining crew to start a colony.
Because of his romantic links to Brand, the crew thinks there may be bias behind her desire to visit him first, which contributes to the decision of Endurance's crew to not visit Edmunds before the very end.
The spaceship Endurance's destination is Gargantua, a fictional supermassive black hole with a mass 100 million times that of the sun. It lies 10 billion light-years from Earth and is orbited by several planets. Gargantua rotates at an astounding 99.8 percent of the speed of light.
The goodbye scene between Cooper and young Murph (early on in the movie when he decides to take on the mission) is emotionally excruciating. She begs him to stay but then refuses to speak to him when it is revealed he doesn't know when he will return.
Ellen Burstyn's interviews as Old Murph for Interstellar's opening scene make her look far more youthful than when she's on her deathbed in the film's ending, so many may not have even recognized her as the same character.

Edmund died. Either by exhausting his supplies (unlikely as he had access to hypersleep, like Dr. Mann) or in an accident or of old-age. CASE is shown excavating/clearing debris off of the entrance to Edmund's base station as Brand looks on, rather sadly, as if she knows he is dead.
Wormholes don't appear naturally, as Coop notes (and Kip Thorne confirms in his book). So it must have been placed there by someone, or something. Early in the film, we're led to believe that a benevolent ultra-advanced civilisation has placed it there. Aliens, basically.
Why does Dr. Amelia Brand feel so strongly about going to Edmund's World?
She was in love with Edmund and felt compelled to go . They are not able to investigate a black hole , everything gets sucked in and there 's no connection and you lose power . Dr. Brand said the plan was not to save the planet , so she believes the plan will not be successful .
Mann needed the Endurance to survive and complete Plan-B with the surviving crew. Meanwhile, Romilly successfully accessed KIPP's archives, which revealed the true data of Dr. Mann's planet. Before Romilly could inform the others, the robot detonates, killing him in an explosion.
It took the spaceship 18 months to travel to the wormhole, then 23 years passed from exploring planet Miller. Murph said (cried) in the video to his dad that she is finally the same age as him when he left. Which tells us that she and her dad are both 35 years old toward the end of the movie.
Murph burns all of the crops in order to make Tom understand he needs to leave the farm. Romilly is killed by a trap mine. Brand and Cooper barely escape back to the Endurance.
Ok, now follow a few steps. Murph was 10 years old when Cooper left. Cooper traveled for 2 years to the wormhole and subsequently lost 23 years in gravitational time dilation on Miller's planet. When he returns to the Endurance he receives Murph's message that she is now the same age as Cooper when he departed.
