Qui-Gon Jinn's appearance as a Force ghost represents closure for Obi-Wan, who overcomes his sense of failing his former master. Qui-Gon's absence at the victory celebration on Endor makes sense because the Force ghosts present were all significant to Luke Skywalker's story, which Qui-Gon wasn't directly involved in.
He was a wise and well-respected member of the Jedi Order, and was offered a seat on the Jedi Council, but chose to reject and follow his own path. Was Sidious afraid of Qui-Gon?
Darth Sidious, was in the earliest stages of his plan to take over the galaxy, and he was afraid a certain Jedi might get in his way. Interestingly, however, that Jedi wasn't Yoda or Master Windu, but instead Qui-Gon Jinn.
The part about being born of no father is what ultimately convinced Qui-Gon that Anakin was the Chosen One, because Anakin's mother Shmi Skywalker had told Qui-Gon that Anakin was born through immaculate conception.

Qui-Gon's apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi, then used the same lightsaber to defeat Maul after losing his own. After the battle, the weapon was later returned to the Jedi Temple. With the advent of the Great Jedi Purge, the blade again fell into the possession of Kenobi, who went into hiding on the planet Tatooine.

Yoda struck the Podium too hard to control his landing, and he rolled off the main portion to the edge where he desperately attempted to climb back up. His hold on the smooth edge failing, Yoda lost his grip and fell several stories to the floor. Yoda chose to retreat as Sidious cackled in triumph above him.
You can also see how much Qui Gon Jinn's death affected Dooku when he was talking to Obi Wan in AOTC. Look at the raw, pure emotion Dooku feels over a decade after Qui-Gon died. It affected him significantly.
Moreover, throughout the duel, Yoda continually adapts to and even matches Palpatine - forcing his enemy to constantly attempt new tactics. Palpatine clearly hated Master Yoda with a fierce passion, but he was under no illusions that the Grand Master would be easy to defeat.
