Though heartbroken by seeing the figures, they help Elsa and Anna realize that their parents used the ship under a guise of crossing the Southern Sea, when in fact they were heading north of Arendelle with the intention of crossing the Dark Sea to find Ahtohallan, where they hoped to gain answers about Elsa's powers.

Frozen explicitly shows the audience that Iduna and Agnarr's ship has sunk, killing both of the young princesses' parents. After finding the remnants of their parents' ship washed up on shore, Elsa uncovers that her parents traveled across the Dark sea in search of Ahtohallan, a mythical river rumored to contain the memories of the past, to discover the source of Elsa's magic.
Were Anna and Elsa's parents going to Rapunzel's wedding?
Writer and director of Frozen, Jennifer Lee, has confirmed in the past that the parents were indeed on their way to a wedding - Rapunzel and Flynn's wedding to be exact. And in a scene from the popular film, we see the newlyweds at Elsa's coronation.
