Roughly two weeks after CinemaCon 2024 debuted new footage for the highly anticipated sequel, one of the film's biggest stars took to social media to share a new look. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson posted several photos on his personal Instagram which show him in the Disney studio, recording new lines as Maui in Moana 2.
The second installment in the Moana franchise and the sequel to Moana (2016), the film was written and directed by David G. Derrick Jr. (in his feature directorial debut) and produced by Osnat Shurer. Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson will reprise their roles as Moana and Maui, respectively.
Moana 2. In the first film, Moana is around 16 years old when she sets out on a journey from her island of Motunui to find Maui and force him to restore the heart of Te Fiti. That would make her about 19 or 20 in the new movie.

Is Moana 2 confirmed?
In Walt Disney Animation Studios' all-new epic animated musical, Moana 2, three years since her first voyage, Moana is on an expansive journey in search of people beyond the shores of Motunui. Moana 2 opens in theaters on Nov. 27, 2024.
A teaser trailer for the animated sequel dropped on 7th February, featuring Moana, Maui and more, and we already can't wait to watch the full thing. Moana 2 is coming to cinemas on 27th November 2024.

Although Moana's relationship with Maui never extends beyond the platonic level in the film, and although he is a 1,000-year old demigod and she is a 16-year old human, a lot of fans of the film like to put her and Maui in a romantic pairing known as Hooked Wayfinder.
Nope. It turns out Moana just doesn't have one in the movie. "It's a film about the heroine finding herself," Musker and Clements revealed to EW about whether or not Moana was going to have a romance.
The directors, John Musker and Ron Clements, revealed at San Diego Comic Con that the story will focus on Moana finding herself, rather than finding romance.
Moana's father, Chief Tui, may have been chosen by the ocean before her to bring the Heart of Te Fiti to Maui, indicating a family history of protecting the world. Chief Tui recognizes the Heart of Te Fiti when Moana shows it to him, suggesting that he has seen it before and has a fear associated with it.
