So far, the only characters we've seen beat Dormammu were Doctor Stange and The Ancient One. For Strange to do so, he had to create an infinite time loop to trap him in unless he agreed to leave the Earth with the Zealots. As he was not familiar with the concept of time, he agreed, and banished himself.
Galactus would easily defeat Dormammu outside the Dark Dimension, but it turns out that even on Dormammu's turf, he retains his power and has the means to grow even stronger.
Abducting the Ancient One and luring Strange to the Dark Dimension, Mordo attempted a dirty move in his duel against Strange, drawing the ire of Dormammu, who considered it dishonorable. Strange then defeated Dormammu again and, once more, Dormammu promised not to attack Earth, including via any loopholes.
To destroy Dormammu completely, one would have to completely unmake the Dark Dimension. While there are entities in the Marvel canon capable of such a feat, none have been yet revealed in the MCU, and such feats tend to include a massive sacrifice.

Can Dormammu beat Thanos?
In the Dark Dimension, Dormammu can win nearly any fight. Thanos has no hope of achieving victory in Dormammu's realm. If the fight were to happen in normal space and Thanos was able to make the first move with the stones, he might be able to win.
