In the “Child's Play” movies, John says Chucky must transfer his soul to the first human he revealed himself too. But in “Curse of Chucky,” he transfers his soul into Alice's body.
Chucky starts the voodoo chant to transfer his soul into Alice's body, while in the next room, her grandmother suddenly sits up, with a bag over her head as she gasps for air. In a post-credits scene, Chucky, still in his doll body, is delivered to Andy, now an adult.

Charles performs a Voodoo spell using an amulet, the Heart of Damballa, that transfers his consciousness out of his human body and into the doll's "body." With that, Charles Lee Ray dies and lives again as Chucky, the killer doll ... and he digs it!

Why did Chucky split his soul?
The Chuckys reveal that the original Chucky found a voodoo spell on the internet which allowed him to separate his soul into multiple host bodies, creating a "cult." Alice was one host, but she was killed.
The only way to get a real body again is to transfer his soul to the first person he revealed his true identity to. So, Chucky spends two movies trying to transfer his soul into young Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) but fails. First Andy burns and dismembers him (with help; he's six after all).
Chucky and Tiffany make plans to transfer their souls into Redman and Jennifer. Tiffany knocks them out and uses a turkey baster to inseminate Jennifer with Chucky's semen, intending to use her baby as a host for Glen's soul.
Four years after the events of Cult of Chucky, Nica is still possessed by Chucky and staying with Tiffany in a hotel room in Hackensack, New Jersey, where Chucky and Tiffany are originally from. Nica is able to regain control of her body temporarily, usually at the sight of blood.

Chucky is portrayed as a vicious serial killer who, as he bleeds out from a gunshot wound, transfers his soul into a "Good Guy" doll and continuously tries to transfer it to a human body. The character has become one of the most recognizable horror icons and has been referenced numerous times in popular culture.
