The gods dress Thor as a bride, and Loki states that he will go with Thor as his maid, and that the two shall drive to Jötunheimr together. After riding together in Thor's goat-driven chariot, the two, disguised, arrive in Jötunheimr.
Odin then calls for a meeting to discuss what should be done, and Heimdall comes up with a plan: Thor will be dressed up as a bride, which will allow them to get into the land of the giants and figure out a way to get the hammer back.
In the end, Thor had to disguise himself as Freyja and pretend to agree to marry Thrym. When the hammer was brought out to officiate the marriage, Thor stole it back and killed everyone in the giant's hall.
But Freyja had flatly refused to marry Thrym, putting the gods in an awkward situation. The gods had demanded a replacement bride, and that's when Loki came up with this plan. He would disguise Thor himself as Freyja and Thor would fly to the kingdom of the Frost Giants to marry Thrym and steal back his hammer.

Laufey is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character is depicted usually as an enemy of the Asgardian king Odin, father of Thor. He is the King of the Frost Giants, the biological father of Thor's adopted brother and archenemy, Loki.
While Marvel's Loki is the adopted son of King Odin and the biological child of Laufrey — the king of the Frost Giants of Jötunheimr — this differs from the original mythology. In some stories, Laufrey is depicted as a female, making Loki's father actually his mother.
