In June 1995, the real Cheryl Strayed hiked 1,100 miles of the 2,663 mile long Pacific Crest Trail. The Wild movie true story reveals that Cheryl began her journey in Mojave, California and finished her 94-day trek at the Bridge of the Gods on the Oregon-Washington border.
A similar thing happened after she sold “Wild” to Knopf for $400,000, Strayed tells Martin: “Again, the great, funny irony about that was that I got my first check, and we spent it all on credit card bills. We went out and had sushi. But our life didn't change. We only got out of credit card debt.”
At the age of 26, devastated by her mother's untimely death from lung cancer and reeling from her divorce, Cheryl Strayed embarked on a solo, three-month, 1,100-mile hike along the Pacific Crest Trail. Despite being a novice backpacker, with no radio, no phone, no credit cards, and very little money, Strayed survived.

The well-received and very pastoral adaptation of Cheryl Strayed's 2012 memoir features Everclear frontman Art Alexakis in a surreal turn as the tattoo artist who inks Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) and her husband (Thomas Sadoski) with matching "divorce-day" tattoos.
Despite being a newbie, Strayed didn't go into the hike blindly. She ensured she knew where fresh water would be available and packed smartly, including food, a tent for shelter, a water filter, warm clothing, emergency supplies, and a loud whistle to scare off bears.

It's been about eight years since Strayed regularly wrote under the pseudonym Sugar, but she's now brought the column back as a monthly newsletter. Our co-host Rachel Martin spoke with Strayed and asked her where she turns to for comfort and wisdom.
What happened to the mom in Tiny Beautiful Things?

Nine days after she finished her hike on the PCT, Strayed met Brian Lindstrom at a Tex-Mex restaurant called Esparza's, just down the street from where they now live.
Strayed subsequently married filmmaker Brian Lindstrom in August 1999. They have two children and live in east Portland, Oregon, where Strayed has lived since the mid-1990s. Her daughter, Bobbi Strayed Lindstrom, played the younger version of Strayed in the film adaptation of Wild.

Strayed's book is the fact that it was compiled in 1996, the same year that she did her section hike of the PCT. In the 18 years between visits to the Peruvian Andes, my base pack weight dropped from 12.5 kg (27.4 lbs) to 4.79 kg (10.55 lbs)………. the equivalent of 2 gallons of water or 146 Snickers Bars!

On the rigors of shooting, Witherspoon stated: By far, this is the hardest movie I've ever made in my life.
