Since whoever owns the elder wand has immense power Harry decides it's best to destroy it. However, in the books, Harry doesn't break the wand; he puts it back in Dumbledore's tomb. Harry discusses his decision with Dumbledore (when he is in sort of limbo before defeating Lord Voldemort for the last time).
In Part 2 of the film adaptation, Harry simply destroys the Elder Wand by snapping it in half before throwing it away from the viaduct as opposed to the seventh book where he uses it to repair his own wand and returns the Elder Wand to Dumbledore's grave.
Harry Potter Was The Last Of The Elder Wand Owners
With the wand's allegiance to Harry, Voldemort's attempt to use the Killing Curse on Harry backfired and killed him instead. Harry repairs his original wand and then breaks the Elder Wand in half, making him the last Elder Wand owner.
It later switched its loyalty to Harry Potter during his escape from Malfoy Manor. While deaths did occur in both situations (Dumbledore and Dobby respectively), neither Draco nor Harry committed the act.

Why did Draco's wand choose Harry?
When Harry disarmed Draco in Malfoy Manor, the Elder Wand's allegiance shifted to him. Thus, when Voldemort tried to use the Killing Curse on Harry, the Elder Wand refused to attack him. The curse backfired, defeating the Dark Lord once and for all. It is unknown if Draco ever got his original wand back.
Dumbledore never broke the Elder Wand because he knew it would have to be used to kill Voldemort. Remember how Harry's wand acted of it's own accord against Voldemort even when Voldemort was using Lucius' wand, a wand that was not the brother of Harry's?
Was Dumbledore only powerful because of the Elder Wand?
Dumbledore possessed the elder wand, but his talent, diligent work and exceptional mind were the only reasons he gained such a reputation and prominence in the wizarding world. A Harry Potter fan who thinks in great detail about the books, and tha Universe. No. In fact the Wand helped him not at all.
Harry believes that if he dies a natural death while still having the true ownership of the wand its power will be broken and no one will be able to have such power.
After arriving at Hogwarts, Albus and his fellow students attended the Sorting ceremony. The Sorting Hat placed Rose in Gryffindor and both Scorpius and Albus in Slytherin, to the surprise of many.
Even though Harry delivered the fatal blow, Voldemort's demise was indeed the result of Dumbledore's careful planning because he is the most potent wizard in the entire series. As readers of the Harry Potter series, we are well acquainted with the wizarding world and the many powerful wizards.
Epilogue. After the war ended, McGonagall was fully instated as the Headmistress of Hogwarts and was awarded the Order of Merlin, First Class by new Minister for Magic Kingsley Shacklebolt.
Draco had no idea that by disarming Dumbledore, he became the master of his wand — the Elder Wand, one of the Deathly Hallows. He was unable and unwilling to go through with the murder, and Severus Snape stepped in to kill Dumbledore in accordance with their secret plan.
Harry has his superior defensive magical at his disposal, but Hermione is more skilled in protective charms and enchantments. Either skillset could earn them a victory in a duel.
Harry was the true master of the Elder Wand at this point. Voldemort began to realize that the Elder Wand wasn't obeying him as it should. He believed that Snape was the true owner since he killed Dumbledore and had Nagini kill him.
Dumbledore kicks some serious ass, especially when it comes to wizarding duels, but in a contest of all-out brawls, the points have to go to Gandalf. Gandalf will frequently throw himself into the heat of battle, dispatching orc after orc with his sword and staff combo.
Why did the Elder Wand not belong to Voldemort after he killed Snape?
In reality, the Elder Wand belonged to Draco, as he was the one to disarm Dumbledore in the Astronomy Tower. This means Snape's tragic death was for nothing when Voldemort still believed he was a loyal Death Eater.
Given that it contained overwhelming magic, the Elder Wand simply refused to obey anyone who was inferior in terms of power. As such, it would have presumably accepted Voldemort as its new master if he had thought to defeat or kill Draco Malfoy.
Dumbledore often kept secrets in order to protect Harry's innocence and preserve his appetite for learning and courageous spirit. He was very aware that Harry would be daunted with an unbelievable burden, so his primary method was to keep Harry on the right track in terms of his growth and development as an adolescent.
J.K. Rowling says Draco doesn't have a patronus because he never learned the spell but I think it's because he doesn't have any powerful happy memories to use.
Ultimately, it's a good thing that Dumbledore's plans didn't work out because if Draco hadn't disarmed the headmaster, Harry wouldn't have gained the Elder Wand's power when he later disarmed Draco. This was proof that, unlike Dumbledore, Harry was destined to reunite the Hallows and become Master of Death all along.
Rowling commented that "The moment Draco got what he thought he wanted, to become a Death Eater, and given a mission by Lord Voldemort, as he did in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, reality finally hit him" because his dream was "so very different".
