He was resurrected by Talia al Ghul using the Lazarus Pit, and then trained by both the League of Assassins and the All-Caste. He eventually returned to Gotham City under the new alias Red Hood, using more lethal methods to fight crime.
Talia later restored Todd's health and memory by immersing him in a Lazarus Pit in which her father was also bathing and helped him escape the House of al Ghul. It is suggested by Ra's that the power of the pit resulted in Todd's mental instability.
Afterwards, Todd's body is taken by Crane's Alcatel to a hidden Lazarus Pit under Arkham Asylum where he is resurrected. When Todd awakens, he finds Crane there, who calms him and gives him a better version of the anti fear gas, all the while manipulating Todd into working with him.
Jason had superhuman strength and was tough to destroy, despite shootings, stabbings and axes to the head. He apparenty died a number of times but was brought back to life by a lightning bolt, by a girl with telekinetic powers and by a submerged power cable.

Why didn t Batman save Jason?
Jason was thrust into the world of heroes and villains by Batman. If he were to kill the Joker, Batman would feel a level of responsibility for that. Also, a major theme of Batman, in virtually any medium, is guilt. Batman doesn't want Jason to have to bear the guilt of killing the Joker.
After being tortured by Joker, his mental state started deteriorating, and he hoped that his partner would come in to rescue him. In time, (due to Joker showing him a photo of Batman with a new Robin); Jason lost hope and started to hate his mentor for leaving him to die.
TLDR: Superman didn't save Jason because he was being tortured by Lex Luthor at the time in order for Luthor to create Conner Kent/Superboy . This is why he wants nothing to do with Superboy once he appears.
This all comes to a head in Jason Goes to Hell, which features a rather convoluted “explanation” for why Jason has never died: he can only be killed by a member of his bloodline.

Jason Todd, AKA the Red Hood, has just been seen dying for the second time in a special preview for Task Force Z #3, on sale in print and digital December 28. Todd, during his time as the second Robin, perished at the hands of the Joker, only to be revived years later.

So it's pretty much generally accepted that Jason was 15 when he died. In most depictions via comics or live action movies like Under the Red Hood or A Death in the Family, I can clearly see that Jason is a boy in his mid teens. Not many people debate this.
Joker faked Jason's death & sent it to Batman, ensuring that Batman would never try and find Jason. Then, he kept him in Arkham Asylum and tortured him for almost 2 years.
