The Avatar Program scientists take DNA from a Na'vi and from a selected human volunteer. On Earth, in genetics labs, they create an in-vitro embryo, which is a genetic composite of the alien and human donor.
How do humans become Na'vi? Pandora's atmosphere is inhospitable to humans, so Earth scientists combined human and Na'vi DNA to create Na'vi clones. Humans can then remotely pilot those clones, which are called avatars.

James Cameron recently spoke with Empire for their January 2023 issue and was asked why he decided to make the Na'vi blue in Avatar. It turns out that there's not any grand reasoning behind the choice, it was simply the only colour he felt wasn't taken by other cinematic characters.
Skin color is due to the presence of the cyanin pigment. It can "tan" to a darker purplish color after prolonged sunlight exposure. Despite their cyan skin color, the Na'vi have red blood, utilizing an iron oxygen-transporting compound similar to hemoglobin.

How old is Neteyam?
Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk'itan, or Neteyam, is a major character in the Avatar franchise, serving as one of the main characters in Avatar: The Way of Water. He is the 15-year-old eldest son of Jake Sully and Neytiri, who is also the older brother of Lo'ak, Tuktirey, and Kiri.
The Na'vi have special organs (similar to kidneys) called wichow that take advantage of this atmosphere to extract greater amounts of oxygen for their bloodstream. These organs use carbon dioxide and water in their bodies and convert them into methane and oxygen. The methane is exhaled back into the atmosphere.
The Na'vi were an amalgamation of different people of color and marginalized groups in concerns to colonization. A group of colored people who appear to be savage but hold control of a desired resource. Cameron purposefully casted majority of the humans as Caucasian actors.
At the beginning, the Na'vi were meant to be more alien in their looks. Director James Cameron said that in the first drawing of the main character, "Neytiri", she had fins, gills, and cat-like features. The species was changed to look more like humans.
But it turns out the 'hair sex' scene was never part of the theatrical cut at all, it was actually in the Avatar extended version that was released in 2010. The extended version is also included on home video, DVD and Blu-ray.
Jake Sully, ex-Marine, is recruited into the RDA's Avatar program after his scientist twin-brother, Tommy, is killed. Since Jake and Tommy share identical DNA make-up, Jake is able to step into his deceased brother's role as an Avatar driver.
In the film's closing scene, the Na'vi transfer Jake into the avatar body permanently, eradicating his disability and neatly delivering him from his original role as a white colonizer.
Shortly after the events of the Avatar, Jake has the Na'vi give his human body a traditional burial and moves the Omaticaya Clan near Hell's Gate to be close to the human allies who were allowed to stay on Pandora.
Most of them escape, save for Spider, and it's revealed that Spider's dad in Avatar is none other than the villain Quaritch. Quaritch and Spider suffer a complex dynamic throughout the film, with Spider ultimately saving his life in the end.
Speaking to Empire, he revealed he chose blue because there weren't other characters who were already the same colour. He said: “As for the color: green was taken. There was a long history of green aliens.
The Na'vi are monogamous creatures that mate for life. Na'vi reproduction is similar to that of placental mammals on Earth. A Na'vi female will typically produce from one to ten offspring, often spaced widely apart in time. Na'vi females have two breasts, and nurse their infants for up to four months.
The most obvious distinction between an avatar and a genuine Na'vi is the number of fingers and toes. A Na'vi only has four digits, while the avatar body has five due to the human DNA. At the end of Avatar, Jake decides to transfer his consciousness to his avatar body permanently.
In the construction of the Na'vi species, there are undeniable influences from Black and Indigenous cultures. Both films show Na'vi characters depicted wearing dreadlocks and braids, hairstyles with historical connections to Black and African cultures.
