Cato's moans are never-ending, and Katniss feels only pity for him and wants his suffering to stop. Morning finally comes and Katniss is able to see Cato below. Out of pity, she uses her last arrow to end Cato's life.
Katniss views Cato as epitome of a career tribute, blood thirsty, aggressive and arrogant. Cato is the only tribute in the entire games that Katniss actively wants to kill in the games. Despite him not doing anything personally to her, she wants him dead, and she knows she can do it.
Though Katniss is an experienced hunter, she clearly feels uncomfortable at the thought of having killed him. This discomfort lasts only briefly, however, as Katniss remembers Rue's death and pushes the boy out of her mind, suggesting she feels justified in having killed him.
With Peeta's help, she leans down into the mouth of the Cornucopia and finds a savagely bloodied Cato lying at the back. He mouths the word "please", and out of pity, not vengeance, she shoots the arrow into his head, killing him instantly.
Katniss keeps moving because she doesn't want Prim to see her die a brutal death at the hands of Cato. Katniss is terrified because Cato's rage is directed at her.
What: The sneering leader of the Cobra Kai Career gang, Cato's last words in the book are appropriately demonic: ''Shoot me, and he goes down with me. '' The film grants Cato a little bit more emotion.
Cato releases Peeta and falls off of the Cornucopia. The dogs immediately attack him. When Katniss realizes that the dogs intend to kill Cato slowly, she fires her last arrow at Cato, putting him out of his misery. His death marks the end of the 74th Hunger Games.
Peeta urges Katniss to run and stays to fight fellow tribute Cato while she escapes. He survives the encounter with Cato but suffers a stab wound on his leg. He camouflages himself into the rocks and mud alongside a riverbank, slowly dying of blood poisoning until Katniss finds him days later.
In the 74th Hunger Games, Clove was the only Career tribute who came close to killing Katniss twice — at the Bloodbath and at the Feast, and certainly seemed to have a deep hatred for her, perhaps because Katniss received a higher score than her.
No purpose, no excitement. Just Dead. Maybe he is just realizing that he could not win and that he knew Katniss would kill him and he could not win without clove. So he kinda just gave up because there was no use in trying to win if he did not get to be with clove in the end.
Rue's dad doesn't start a riot in District 11 after his daughter's death. Haymitch doesn't convince the Game Maker to change the solo victor rule. The film annexes the briefly mentioned characters Madge Undersee, Mayor Undersee, Greasy Sae, and Venia.
Glimmer's death occurs by chance. Katniss drops a tracker jacker nest on the Career Tributes' camp while they are sleeping, and Glimmer is stung to death before she can get away. Marvel is the first person that Katniss intentionally kills. After Marvel kills Rue, Katniss' friend, Katniss shoots Marvel in retribution.
She takes stock of the other remaining tributes, recognizing Thresh, Cato, and the girl from District 2 as her biggest threats, particularly Cato and the girl from District 2 since they also benefit from the two-tribute survival rule.
In the books, her last arrow is used to secure the tourniquet to stop the bleeding of Peetas leg, and one of the reasons why she does not shoot Cato sooner to end his suffering is that she fears removing it would make Peeta bleed to death. This is just an oversight of the movie.
As he does so, Cato cuts his way through the brush and realizes what Peeta has done. Enraged at Peeta's betrayal, Cato engages the other tribute in a fight, a fight which Peeta swiftly loses, escaping only with a severe leg wound, tracker jacker strings, and burns retained from the fire.
Katniss eventually awakes and realizes that a day or two has passed. Then she remembers that Peeta saved her life and wonders why he did it. She also remembers that she got the bow and arrows, and finally she feels like she has a chance in the Games.
While popular ships like Katniss/Peeta and Katniss/Gale generally come to mind first when discussing romantic pairings in the world of Panem, the combinations of couples that fans have shipped are many. One of those ships, in particular, is Cato and Clove (also known by the portmanteau "Clato").
At the very end of the series, Buttercup traveled all the way from District 13 to 12 just to find Prim but was sad when he did not find her. Katniss yells at him "She's dead", and the two mourn together for Prim.
Clove figures among the favorites to win the games eventually won by Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), though the 15-year-old knife-thrower meets a grisly end at the hands of District 11's Thresh (Dayo Okeniyi) in a sequence that is both longer and more meaningful in the book.
On March 23, 2011, Lionsgate began casting the role of Peeta for the film of The Hunger Games. According to The Hollywood Reporter, contenders for the role included Josh Hutcherson, Alexander Ludwig (later cast as Cato), Hunter Parrish, Lucas Till, and Evan Peters.
In the film, Glimmer acts flirtatiously toward Cato. They talk and joke around the fire, she sleeps beside him that night, and even snuggles into his arm. However, the relationship is largely one-sided, and Cato leaves her to die to the tracker jackers.
Before she takes the stage that night, Haymitch hugs Katniss and gives her a message. He says, “Listen up, You're in trouble. Word is the Capital's furious about you showing them up in the arena… Your only defense can be you were so madly in love you weren't responsible for your actions” (Collins 357).
These wolf-like mutts are not just murderous creatures created to kill those remaining but horrific monsters that resemble the now-dead tributes. The wolf-like mutts act as a physical representation of how the remaining tributes have themselves become murderous monsters throughout the course of the game.
I'm re-reading the hunger games books in this glorious hg renaissance and I'm trying to figure out in my head how many days passed between cato stabbing peeta in the legs after the tracker jackers and Katniss finding him at the lake.
While a prisoner of the Capitol, Peeta was hijacked into believing that Katniss was not human, but in fact one of the Capitol's mutts. Conversely, Johanna Mason suggested that the Capitol's torture replaced Peeta with an "evil-mutt version" of himself. This sentiment was later echoed by Katniss.
