Together with Debra, they turn the red wine (which has now flooded the room) into the blood of Jesus and Valak burns up. Irene is then able to save Maurice from Valak's clutches and all ends well with Maurice back working at the school, and seemingly having gained a new family with Kate and Sophie.
The Nun II director Michael Chaves has revealed the film's devastating ending for Maurice was intentional, due to his later fate in the universe's timeline. Valak isn't actually in Annabelle: Creation--at least not directly--but it does show up in a photo presented by one of the nuns, Sister Charlotte, who spent some time at "a monastery in Romania" but has no recollection of who the odd looking nun in the photo might be.

Maurice clearly still has a little devil left in him. But for now, he gets a happy ending. In the last scene of the movie, Maurice tends to his tomato plants and lives happily ever after with Kate and Sophie.

On the window is a pretty mosaic with a goat front and center, and the girls tell Sophie that when the goat's eyes glow red it means the devil is watching her, and if she leaves while it's watching it'll come to life and haunt her.
However, in the same way Valak isn't contained to Lorraine Warren's (Vera Farmiga) canvas, the goat demon vanishes from the mosaic. The goat demon manifests in the real world and terrorizes the school.
