It endured for 28 years, at the end of which the author or proprietor (in the case of a work made for hire) could renew the copyright registration of the work, for an additional 28 years of protection. (Failure to renew the registration resulted in expiration of copyright after the 28th year.)
Failure to renew 28 years after a movie or TV show was made is the main reason that American films made before 1964 are currently in the public domain. In 1966 Congress prepared a new copyright law that extended protection to 75 years from the date a film was released.
The beloved mouse that is nearly a century old will soon enter public domain — the original Mickey Mouse's copyright expires in 2024. This anthropomorphic mouse is recognizable even by the silhouette of his ears and, in some ways, has been the face of The Walt Disney Co. since his 1928 creation.

Did Winnie-the-Pooh copyright expire?
Walt Disney Co. has controlled the rights to Winnie-the-Pooh since 1961 and kept depictions of Milne's talking animals true to the spirit of the family-friendly material. The copyright expired in January 2022. Since then, Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends have been available to the public for other purposes.
Pooh, Piglet, Kanga, Roo, Owl, Eeyore and Christopher Robin all became public domain on January 1 last year when the copyright on A.A. Milne's 1926 book, Winnie-the-Pooh, with illustrations by E.H. Shepard, expired.
The children's book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum in 1900 is in the public domain. This follows the general rule that any work published before 1923 is in the public domain. The film, The Wizard of Oz, starring Judy Garland and directed in 1939 by Victor Fleming is NOT in the public domain.
A license is required for all public performances regardless of whether admission is charged. What if someone owns the movie? The rental, purchase, lending or download of a movie does not provide the right to exhibit it publicly outside the home unless the screening is properly licensed.
Obtain written permission from the movie's copyright owner before uploading. If you have legal authorisation to share the content, you can confidently upload it without any copyright concerns.
Contact the copyright holder directly, or contact the distributor if the distributor has the authority from the copyright owner to grant licenses, to purchase public performance rights or to request permission for a particular public performance use.
Copyright protection generally lasts for 70 years after the death of the author. If the work was a "work for hire", then copyright persists for 120 years after creation or 95 years after publication, whichever is shorter. For works created before 1978, the copyright duration rules are complicated.
(a) In General. —Copyright in a work created on or after January 1, 1978, subsists from its creation and, except as provided by the following subsections, endures for a term consisting of the life of the author and 70 years after the author's death.
The copyright on the most famous spinach eater in the comics, Popeye, or here in Italy, Popeye, expired in Europe on January 1, 2009, exactly 70 years after the death of its famous creator, Elzie Segar. In the United States, however, the copyright will expire on January 1, 2024.

Does Disney still have copyright over Winnie the Pooh?

A few seconds of a movie clip that doesn't include a plot spoiler would probably be acceptable. Nature of original work. The courts will be more likely to protect something of an artistic nature, compared to something which was created for commercial gain.
Many classic creations will be following in Winnie the Pooh's footsteps and entering the public domain in the next few years. In addition to Winnie the Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore have already been released into the public domain. Following them, Tigger's copyright protection is set to lapse in 2024.
Mickey Mouse, Batman, Superman and Bugs Bunny all become public domain in the next 10 years. The Hundred Acre Wood has seen some pretty unsettling things over the years.
Like Doyle's short stories still under copyright protection, elements from A.A. Milne's second book, The House at Pooh Corner, are not yet in the public domain. Tigger was first introduced in this second book, and therefore is still copyright protected and cannot be used without a proper license.
