Unlucky Origin. Some time ago, Thanos killed Nebula's family and adopted her as a daughter, raising her to be a galactic warrior on his behalf. It is most likely that the Mad Titan had wiped out half her species, like he did with so many others, in his “noble” quest to bring balance to the universe.
Early life. Nebula is one of several children forcibly adopted by Thanos. After he killed her family, she was raised alongside Gamora and trained to be a warrior. Thanos often forced them to fight and Gamora was always victorious.
It turns out that Nebula star Karen Gillan very much believes that Nebula does have a little crush on Peter Quill, and during a recent interview with The New York Times, director James Gunn expanded on that a bit and believes that there could be something there.
As proven by Thanos sacrificing Gamora, he's a being capable of love. While he may not have had affection for Nebula in her adult years, her growth and ability to fight with 100 percent of herself every time were enough for him to pay attention to her and try and "help" her to ensure she never lost again.
The alleged granddaughter of the Mad Titan Thanos and daughter of Luphomoid warlord Zorr, Nebula was raised by Thanos alongside her "sister" Gamora, whom Thanos openly preferred over Nebula, causing her to develop a huge hatred towards her sister.

Is Nebula a good guy?
Nebula is a character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Roger Stern and John Buscema, the character first appeared in The Avengers #257 (July 1985). Originally depicted as a supervillain, Nebula was later depicted as an antihero and member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
So much so that Tony was arguably the best father figure that Nebula has ever gotten in the MCU. Thanos had an abusive relationship with his adopted daughters. While he favored Gamora (Zoe Saldana), he was harsh and downright dismissive of Nebula.
However, Red Skull saw his true intentions, informing Gamora that Thanos was, in fact, weeping for Gamora, as he truly loved her as a daughter, and was heartbroken that he had to sacrifice her to get the Soul Stone. Disbelieving, Gamora could not comprehend that Thanos ever showed genuine love for her.
Death is predominantly depicted as a skeleton cloaked in a black or purple robe, and at times appears as a Caucasian human female. A storyline in the title Captain Marvel showcases Thanos' scheme to conquer the universe, as the character becomes determined to prove his love for Death by destroying all life.

"I begged them to have that kiss in the movie, because it was necessary to really cement their relationship. I had a kiss in Vol. 2 that I cut – it was awesome, but it came in a weird time," Gunn told The New York Times.
A quick, comedic scene in Vol. 3's Orgocorp heist teases some potential romance between Peter Quill and Nebula, but James Gunn claims that it was never going to become anything more (per The New York Times).
Nebula realized that for her to truly live, Thanos would have to die. She wanted to get money to purchase weapons, so she attempted to steal Anulax Batteries from the planet Sovereign. However, the Sovereign people caught her and arrested her.
Description: Cull Obsidian was the strongest among Thanos' children. He used a chain hammer to fight his enemies, notably using it when facing Iron Man during the Attack on Greenwich Village. He almost killed Iron Man until he was saved by Wong.
She appears to be in her late twenties, early thirties. Nebula has dark blue skin that looks purple. Two sides of her face are blue. Her left side, however, has silver metal surrounding her left eye.
Since Gamora was most regularly successful in advancing his ideals and vision for the universe going forward, he favored her, equating her successes with love.
Thanos eventually realizes that all the trouble he went for in the snap: Killing Gamora, Killing Asgard's population, and ruining lives, have been for nothing. Thanos commits to finding a solution to reverse the snap. He starts to repair the gauntlet and confronts the Avengers.
We can't say he truly let her win. He could be pretty terrible at it for all we know. He played the game with her because he was trying to pass the time and break the ice with her. After spending some time with her he clearly realized that she was seriously lacking in social skills and wanted to help her out.
As a youth, Nebula grew up in a torturous environment created by Thanos. Having the Mad Titan as a parental figure would have been bad enough, but she was also constantly compared to her surrogate sister Gamora. Thanos openly favored Gamora, which drove Nebula mad with jealous rage.
This leads to a bittersweet yet satisfying payoff. Peter and Gamora part ways, but beforehand, Gamora acknowledges she is sure the Gamora from this universe and Peter had fun in this timeline. While she recognizes Peter and Gamora's past and his feelings, she sticks to her own story, and Peter finally lets go.
Over the years, Gamora became Thanos' favorite child, and he considered her the future heir to his throne, which only strengthened the growing wedge in her relationship with Nebula and in time, Gamora built up the reputation as the "deadliest woman in the galaxy" and became well known throughout the cosmos.
At the peak of their battle, King Thanos calls Thanos by his intended birth name: Dione. The story of how Thanos earned his name begins on the planet Titan. Thanos was born to A'Lars and Sui-San, members of a race of aliens called Eternals.
Gamora is the adopted daughter of Thanos, and the last of her species. Her powers include superhuman strength and agility and an accelerated healing factor. She also is an elite combatant, being able to beat most of the opponents in the galaxy. She is a member of the superhero group known as the Infinity Watch.
