Flint Marko, also known as the Sandman, is the secondary antagonist of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, and a supporting antagonist in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Why did Sandman betray Peter?
When Spider-Man tried to stop him, Sandman saw him only as an obstacle to the healing of his daughter and did not hesitate to try to kill him when he got in his way.
Ultimately, Sandman's antagonistic actions were mostly the result of his fear of losing his daughter. However, when he found out that Spider-Man was really Peter Parker, Flint lost all his animosity towards him, realizing that Peter was only opposing him because of what he had unwittingly done to Ben Parker.
Ben was killed when a burglar was robbing their house. Ben accidentally surprised him causing the burglar to shoot him. His death sparked the transformation of Peter Parker into Spider-Man. He once returned for five minutes as part of a birthday present from Doctor Strange for Peter Parker.
Marko obtained powers when he fell into a super collider that molecularly altered his body by bonding it with sand, making him able to transform his body and control the sand. With these powers, Marko became known as Sandman and clashed with Spider-Man, discovering his true identity as Peter Parker.
The Sandman is vulnerable to temperatures above 3400˚ F, which can fuse his particles into glass. On one occasion, however, when his glass form was shattered, he was able to maintain control over the shards. Water inhibits his ability to control his molecules.

Despite all the rewrites, Raimi reportedly hated the scripts. He told Sony he could not meet the May 6, 2011, release date and deliver a satisfying film and decided to depart from the project. On January 11, 2010, the decision was made to scrap Spider-Man 4 entirely and reboot the franchise.
