The Batcave on Arkham Island is a secondary headquarters built below Arkham Asylum as a precaution should he ever be separated from the primary Batcave under Wayne Manor. This "Batcave" is one of many "satellite-caves" established by Bruce Wayne as a base-of-operations within Gotham City.
Look to the right of the pile of skulls in Detective Mode for a breakable wall. Beyond it is a Riddler Trophy (Arkham Island, North Riddle #17). Climb up the nearby ledge and go outside to enter a cutscene where you'll drop down the edge of a cliff into the Batcave.

All of the games are very very similar now yes gameplay does get better with time but that doesn't mean Asylums combat is objectively bad. I also think it's fair because the argument “well it's an older game so it's not fair to compare them all” but for me at least, Arkham city is better then every game in the series.
