The Kang we meet on 'Loki' isn't the out-right villain we expected. Here's the thing. This Kang wasn't even all bad. We certainly wouldn't classify him as a straight-up villain.
He Who Remains Is Clear About His Intentions in 'Loki'
For being a villain who has been to multiple dimensions, Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania feels largely one-dimensional. The issue here isn't Jonathan Majors's performance, as, again, his performances so far in the MCU have been absolutely stellar.
Kang the Conqueror has been described as one of Marvel's most notable and powerful villains. Kang has made media appearances in animated television and video games.
By far, Loki is now the strongest MCU character. It was shown in season 1 of Loki that Timelines=the universe. Loki held infinity of them with his strength.
He said he took control of Alioth, the beast that consumes everything that was pruned from branch timelines and used it to win the war. The once and future Victor Timely said he created the TVA to maintain the Sacred Timeline and prevent other Kang variants from arising.
At the end of season 1, He Who Remains also explained that he'd become tired of living, and presented a choice to Loki and Sylvie: They could take his place as administrators of the TVA, policing the timeline to prevent multiversal war — or they could give in to Sylvie's goal and kill him, knowing it would unleash ...
Another reason why Kang might want to keep the TVA human is that he needs a group that is willing to be loyal to the Timekeepers. The Timekeepers were presented as mystical and powerful otherworldly beings and humans may be more likely to believe that they control everything due to their mysterious origins.
Although Jonathan Majors' Kang the Conqueror officially makes his debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, several of his variants from Marvel Comics have also made their ways to the MCU.
The Council of Kangs, having deemed Kang too dangerous, chose to banish him into the Quantum Realm in an attempt to prevent a new war, since Kang was still seeking to conquer the Multiverse.
The Fantastic Four. The Fantastic Four had the privilege of being the first superhero team to take on and defeat Kang the Conqueror. After Kang traveled through time and conquered Ancient Egypt, the Fantastic Four found themselves also traveling through time and battled Rama-Tut, ousting him from his throne.
If Marvel wants to raise the stakes after Thanos and Kang, there is no better way to bring Annihilus. Like Thanos, Annihilus is a cosmic threat who is more than willing to destroy the universe in his quest for control.
Kang has no true powers and can still die like a mortal man – that's his key weakness. Despite his powerful armor, reduced aging, and general cunning, the same thing that would kill a human will kill him.
The ending of Loki S2 made it clear that multiple Kang versions were still out there, but they were being managed and were not aware of the TVA. At the same time you have the ending of Quantumania where you see multiple Kang versions raging together, lol.
So, Loki is right to be afraid of him because this variant is clearly trying to hide in plain sight. Whatever the Council of Kangs is planning could be coming through him as he could be the new leader of the TVA. Following his trail, Loki must have reached the city of Timely, Wisconsin.
He defeated He Who Remains, outsmarted him, and did what Kang never could. Loki season 2 offers a great way for Marvel Studios to end the Kang storyline and allow them to focus on other Avengers villains. Loki has already beaten Kang.
He also ensures that some of the technology Kang will need gets invented (Tony's time travel machine). As he gamed this particular fight over and over, maybe more than 15 million times, He Who Remains chose this specific set of events. He caused Heimdall, Loki, Gamora, Black Widow, and Iron Man to die.
Why Kang would beat Thanos. Kang isn't physically stronger than Thanos, and if the two were to square up in a one-vs-one fight then the Titan would arguably win. However, Kang's knowledge of the multiverse means that would quite literally be several steps ahead of Thanos at all times. As a result, Kang wins this battle ...
This isn't the first time that a variant of Kang the Conqueror has died in the Multiverse Saga; it's the third. Firstly, Sylvie killed He Who Remains in the Loki season 1 finale. After that, another variant was killed in the Quantum Realm at the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quauntumania by Ant-Man and the Wasp.
A younger version of Kang who wanted to avoid his destiny as an evil despot went back in time where he ended up creating his own team of heroes called the Young Avengers. This was Nathaniel Richards, also known as Iron Lad. This good version of Kang proved to be one of the more interesting takes on The Conquerer.
The Time-Eater ranks atop the most powerful Kang variants thanks to his assuming Galactus' power. This variant killed Galactus and absorbed the Power Cosmic. He then went on to kill all other Galactus variants he could find, destroying their universes and unraveling the multiverse.
Perhaps at some point in his past, Thanos crossed paths with the TVA or heard about them in some way. However he found out about them, he would have discovered the sacred timeline and could well have seen the Snap in his future.
He recruits Loki to help them catch Sylvie, then an unknown variant beating the TVA at their own game. Even when Loki betrays the TVA, his new friend never truly loses faith in him. Mobius respects Loki in a unique way, giving him a level of faith and trust no Asgardian ever did.
