The young man, whom I'll call Adam, had been tracking a disturbing trend among Hunger Games enthusiasts: readers who could not believe—or accept—that Rue and Thresh, two of the most prominent and beloved characters in the book, were black, had been posting vulgar racial remarks.
“ the fragile 12-year-old girl from District 11, is described as having "dark brown skin and eyes." Suzanne Collins was very explicit in the EW interview, saying of Rue and Thresh: "They're African-American." In the books, Collins adds that Rue has thick dark hair, dark satiny brown skin and "golden eyes".
Despite the apparent insignificance of race, the film centers whiteness. For example, in the book, Katniss is described as having olive skin, gray eyes, and black hair, so the actor cast to play her could be mixed race, Latina, or Middle Eastern (to name a few possibilities).
Katniss and Gale and other mining families are described as having “straight black hair, olive skin; we even have the same gray eyes.” These traits are typical of the Melungeon, a marginalized mixed-race Appalachian community; recent DNA evidence reveals they were descended from escaped African-American slaves.
Katniss identified five wolf mutts based on Glimmer, Foxface, the boy from District 9, Thresh, and Rue. The muttations mortally wounded Cato, but did not kill him because he was shielded by body armor.

Amandla Stenberg was the only star in The Hunger Games cast who was the same age as her character when she filmed the movie. The actress was 12 years old when she played the District 11 tribute, and Rue was also 12, which is partly why she and Katniss developed a strong connection in the arena.
Katniss never hallucinates about her dad's death after being stung by tracker jackers. Rue's dad doesn't start a riot in District 11 after his daughter's death. Haymitch doesn't convince the Game Maker to change the solo victor rule.
In The Hunger Games, Effie Trinket has pink hair, speculated to be a wig, and during the reaping wears a spring-green suit. As she gives speeches, she constantly adjusts her attire. In Catching Fire, Effie is adorned with brilliant pumpkin colored locks, just as stunningly vibrant as the beautiful pink.

As they discuss District 12, Peeta spirals out of control, blaming Katniss for the district's destruction and accusing her of being a mutt created by the Capitol to use against everyone.
Cato sees his victory in the Hunger Games as the correct and natural outcome – after all, he's been preparing his whole life, and tributes from Districts 1 and 2 are most likely to be winners. But Katniss's high score in training, uncommon for District 12 tributes, earns Cato's attention and ire.
In The Hunger Games, the first tribute Katniss allied with was the twelve-year-old Rue from District 11. Katniss was drawn to Rue as she reminded her of her little sister Prim and sought to protect her in the Games. It was to end in tragedy, however.
Katniss's focus on survival and her family's safety prevented her from fully considering romance, but her feelings for Peeta and Gale diverged in the end. Katniss ultimately chose Peeta because he understood her trauma and she didn't want to lose him, proving her love for him.
Thus, the audience doesn't know how old Katniss is when she dies. The only information the audience has about Katniss' future is that she and Peeta have a child together 15 years after their experiences in the Rebellion (at 33 years old) and that five years later, they have a second child.
It's only implied that they get it on via snuggling and other affectionate acts in close quarters — but if you have read the book, they really imply that they took their relationship to the next level.
