Crush: Saw the whole thing, dude. First you were all like "whoa", and we were like "whoa", and you were like "whoa..." Marlin: What are you talking about? Crush: You, Mini-Man, takin' on the jellies.You've got serious thrill issues, dude.
Crush gives Marlin advice on how to know when your kids are ready to do things for themselves. Marlin tells the story of how Nemo was taken and everything he's done so far to the sea turtle children. The story is relayed through the ocean and makes its way to Nigel the pelican who knows Nemo and the tank gang.
What does Crush tell Marlin when he asks how do you know when they are ready?
Marlin questions Crush by asking, “How do you know when they're ready?” with the response being, “Well, you never really know. But when they know, you know, ya' know?” We then start seeing less of Marlin as a timid, overprotective father and more of a trusting father.
When life gets you down do you know what you've gotta do? Marlin : No, I don't know what to do. Dory : [singing] Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.
Nemo. Dory has a motherly relationship with Nemo. When the two met, she was relieved to find someone with kindness, and offered to help him look for his father, although she didn't remember she was looking for him too.

Marlin proves to be emotionally disabled from the traumatic loss of his wife, and eggs. “Like many single parents who have survived a tragedy, Marlin turns neurotically overprotective of his son (Germain, 2003)”. Marlin helps represent the struggle with chronic anxiety, and the effect it has on relationships.
Sea-turtles feed on jellyfish due to their natural resistances against jellyfish venom, which would explain why and how Crush was near the jellyfish and able to rescue Marlin and Dory.
Despite Marlin's fear of the open sea, he is willing to do whatever it takes to find his son. In his travels, he encounters all manner of terrifying scenarios but keeps going until they are reunited and learns just how brave he truly is.
The two are discussing names for their children when a barracuda attacks. While Coral and most of the eggs perish, Marlin and one slightly damaged egg survive. Marlin chooses to name his only surviving child Nemo, a name Coral had liked.
On coral reefs, “Dory,” the small vibrant blue fish with black stripes and a yellow tail, is known by several other names: Hippo Tang, Royal Blue Tang, Regal Tang, Palette Surgeonfish and by the scientific name Paracanthurus hepatus.
Nemo is a curious and impressionable six-year-old, only child who lives with his overprotective, single-parent father, Marlin. Having led a sheltered life, Nemo brims with the excitement of starting school and finally seeing the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef.
Nemo hatches as an undifferentiated hermaphrodite (as all clownfish are born) while his father transforms into a female now that his female mate is dead. Since Nemo is the only other clownfish around, he becomes a male and mates with his father (who is now a female).
Dory suffers from severe short-term memory loss, but a lot of what she goes through can be adapted to other contexts, such as the world, or ocean, of ADHD. Dory has trouble with multi-step directions, is easily distracted, and is very impulsive.
Voice cast. Ellen DeGeneres as Dory, a regal blue tang, who suffers from short-term memory loss. Sloane Murray as young Dory. Murray is the 7-year-old daughter of producer Lindsey Collins.
She is able to put Marlin first despite his insensitivity to her feelings because she genuinely cares about helping, just as a hero would. Dory's positive outlook on life and trust in those around her is the only thing that got the two of them through the journey to find Nemo.
Stanton: The first line you hear is Dory saying in her sleep, “Klaus, the piñata is drooping.” That is from the first time we ever had Ellen make up stuff for when Dory is asleep in the diving mask when they were hanging from the sub after the mine had exploded [in the first film].
