Withered Foxy He, along with the four other older animatronics have all fallen into severe disrepair and he is replaced by his newer counterpart for the "improved" Freddy Fazbear's Pizza due to an attempted retrofit of the older animatronics that took place before they got scrapped for the newer models, such as Mangle.
It's possible the decaying body damaged Foxy and with the building being threatened with closure and lower amount of income that must of happened, Foxy was never repaired. We also know that he was always twitchy as Phone Guy tells us in FNAF 2. So his endoskeleton was always kinda broken.
At some point after the Pizzeria has closed. Foxy is lured from Pirate Cove to the Safe Room by Shadow Freddy, and was unable to enter due to his programming preventing him from perceiving it. Foxy was then attacked and torn apart by William Afton, with his remains being left strewn on the floor.

In the 1st game, phone guy mentions the bite of 1987. Foxy's jaw never really moves in the game so I think that in 1983, Fredbear did it and in 1987, Foxy did it.
In the game's files, there is a sound byte referred to as Pirate_song2. When viewed, this song is actually the "Dum Dum De Dum" song that can be heard several times throughout a playthrough. Foxy does apparently sing this, as the sound gets louder if the player views Pirate Cove. What triggers him to sing is unknown.
Gabriel Johnson was one of the 6 children killed by William Afton at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza in 1985. Gabriel was killed after being promised a free dog and lured into the back room of Freddy's, and his body was hidden inside the animatronic called Freddy Fazbear.
not to mention, this is for kids, meaning that they probably would stick the more common male pirate (and i'm not trying to offend anyone, it's just that pirates are more known to be male). so, basically, mangle is confirmed to be a guy. EDIT: never mind, mangle has been confirmed to be a yes.
Foxy isn't good. He's the animatronic that caused the Biting of '87, as evident by the closing of Pirate Cove (his lair) and his loose jaw where they pried the child from his cold metal teeth.
