Summary: Chapter 10Katniss asks the woman what the mockingjay symbol on the cracker means, and she replies it means they're on Katniss's side. A girl walks up and the two explain that they've run away from District 8. They're surprised to learn Katniss doesn't know about the mockingjay symbol.
Peeta doesn't think he can survive the Games, and when Katniss offers encouragement, they argue and Katniss leaves. The next morning, Cinna and Katniss take a hovercraft to the arena, a place that becomes a tourist hot-spot when the Games are over. Katniss has a tracker injected into her forearm.
Katniss goes to sleep in her own room. She dreams about the Hunger Games, and wishes that Peeta were there to keep her safe. Then she remembers that she's decided to join forces with Gale, and that her marriage to Peeta is the government's design, not hers. The next morning, there is a blizzard outside.
The pair has been on the run since, and is now on their way to District 13. For the past 75 years, Panem has been told that District 13 was blown to pieces and no longer exists. However, Bonnie, Twill, and others from District 8 believe the Capitol has been lying to them.
Remembering Snow's words, Katniss puts on a happy face for the cameras. She and Peeta embrace and share a romantic but playful kiss — their first in many months.

That night Katniss wakes because of a nightmare, and she goes to Peeta, who has been up watching the old Games. They hug for a long time, and then they decide to watch the last Quarter Quell, the one where Haymitch was the victor.

Gale is jealous of Peeta and the relationship he has with Katniss, and he wants Katniss to decide between them, though he doesn't press Katniss during her recovery in District 13. Gale is an excellent hunter and excels at setting snares and traps.
Peeta thanks Katniss for finding him and she says that he would have done the same. He talks about what Katniss should do if he doesn't make it back. She's worried that he might die, and to keep him from speaking of such things, she kisses him. It's her first kiss.
