Mutts -- short for muttation -- are genetically engineered creatures used by The Capitol. They've been used in combat, to spy on citizens in individual districts and, most notably, to liven up The Hunger Games for the audience.
These monsters are man-made mutations, called “muttations” or “mutts,” that serve as another means by which the characters die or kill each other. The mutts cause pain and suffering to the characters, but they also serve as a way for the characters to inflict the same pain and suffering on others.
The Wolf Mutts are a deadly threat in the original Hunger Games and are released by the Capital to make the game more exciting. The Hunger Games book uses the wolf mutts slightly differently. They were designed to look like fallen tributes - right down to the human-like eyes.
In the 74th Hunger Games, the Gamemakers release a pack of wolf-like creatures to kill the final three tributes, Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, and Cato. These "wolfs" have long razor-sharp claws and can jump high or balance on their hind legs.
The hybrid mutts: The 74th Hunger Games' horrifying finale involves the release of giant mutt wolf-dogs who are genetically engineered with the eyes of the failed tributes. They spend the night feeding on Cato, the third-to-last tribute, while Peeta and Katniss huddle together on the Cornucopia and listen to him wail.
Finnick managed to kill multiple mutts and attempts to escape with the rest of the group, but one mutt drags him back down into the water. The remaining mutts end up overwhelming him and devouring him, with his suffering only cut short by Katniss using her Holo's self-destruct to grant Finnick a quick death.
As they discuss District 12, Peeta spirals out of control, blaming Katniss for the district's destruction and accusing her of being a mutt created by the Capitol to use against everyone.
At an unknown point in time years before the 74th Hunger Games, she was personally fired by Snow, the stated reason being due to her being too surgically enhanced.
For one thing, Songbirds & Snakes is set 64 years before Katniss volunteers as tribute. That means there's probably a generation or two between Lucy Gray and Katniss if they are related. Fans also know who Katniss' mother is, so that rules out Lucy Gray being her mom.
At the very end of the book, we have Katniss and Peeta huddled together waiting out Cato's death as he's being mauled by mutts inside the Cornucopia. Katniss shoots him in the face, effectively ending his life.
Both Morphlings die during the Hunger Games in Catching Fire, after the female tribute from District 6 protects Peeta from the monkey mutations that attack the tribute. She dies in Peeta's arms while looking at the sunset.
Cause of Death: While navigating the tunnels of the Capitol, Finnick was attacked by lizard mutts. Katniss shot him out of mercy to speed up his painful death. After all the hardships that Finnick faced, including walking away alive from two Hunger Games, his death in the final film was devastating.
Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson: Katniss' fellow District 12 tribute comes from a family of bread bakers, and his name is an alternate—or dystopic, if you will—spelling of pita. The humble Peeta stands in contrast to the grandiose Panem, which, as noted above, is Latin for bread.
Why didn't they let Katniss and Peeta eat the berries?
If Katniss and Peeta had eaten the nightlock berries, they would've died, and there wouldn't have been any winners for the 74th Hunger Games. The rebellion would've moved forward with Katniss and Peeta as martyrs for the movement.
Why does the Capitol allow Cato to suffer all night?
The Gamemakers allow Cato to suffer all night as they believe it makes good entertainment and will captivate the audience. Furthermore, it again reminds the districts of how powerful and without mercy the Capitol can be.
Believing Lucy Gray planted the snake to harm him, Snow goes on a rampage, shooting his gun into the woods. For a moment, it seems like he has hit Lucy Gray but then she starts singing “The Hanging Tree,” causing countless Mockingjays to join in chorus.
The death of her father appears to cause severe depression in her mother. This leaves 11-year-old Katniss as the sole carer of her mother and younger sister.
Described as sweet and vulnerable, in the book, it's suggested she sells her body to ensure the family keeps up appearances and stays fed. Tigris is seen again in "The Hunger Games" franchise as an ally to Katniss Everdeen, but much differently. After heavy modifications to her body over time, she resembles a tiger.
At one point, as the Games started to develop, Tigris became one of the stylists for the tributes of an unknown district. Over the years, Tigris began undergoing surgical enhancements that made her look more tiger-like.
At one point, Snow used poisons to kill people in an effort to gain more control of Panem. First he drank the poisons, to lessen suspicions, before secretly taking the antidote. He was left with sores that never healed. He wears a white rose in his buttonhole at all times, partially to conceal the smell of blood.
No purpose, no excitement. Just Dead. Maybe he is just realizing that he could not win and that he knew Katniss would kill him and he could not win without clove. So he kinda just gave up because there was no use in trying to win if he did not get to be with clove in the end.
Throughout both installments of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, it was revealed that Peeta was physically and mentally tortured by the Capitol. They used tracker jacker venom to distort his memories to turn him against Katniss.
Finnick learned many secrets, including that Snow, in his rise to power, poisoned his adversaries but to divert suspicion often drank from the same poisoned cup followed by an antidote that only Snow used. Segments of the propo of Katniss and Finnick are aired.
