According to director Tom McGrath, the film draws inspiration from Batman (1966) and Superman (1978). Hal Stewart's name is a homage to the superhero title Green Lantern, which was most notably held by Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

Megamind (his birth name remains unknown) was born to his unnamedparents in his home planet. Eight days after Megamind's birth, the planet was destroyed by a black hole but he was able to survive thanks to his parents, who packed him in a escape pod with Minion and his binky and sent him off the planet.
He is a blue alien with a genius-level intellect and a desire for affection stemming from his dark past involving his heroic rival, Metro Man, making him become the villain that he is. Since then, Megamind and Metro Man would fight each other for the fate of Metro City, with the latter always winning.
There are other fan theories connected to this subject, of course—it's been suggested that Megamind may have an anxiety disorder, could be high-functioning autistic, and is likely going through a midlife crisis during the film—but I will leave it there for this week.
The story was off, horrible set of screen writers, animation was low budget, and it was boring. We all know and love Megamind, but in this one I want to throw my remote at the TV. And also, this film was supposed to hit theaters. But since the budget was low, it's getting straight to peacock!

Villain-turned-hero Megamind is back for a direct-to-streaming sequel called Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate. The sequel, which will be released alongside a new Megamind TV series, comes almost exactly 13 years after the original ended its box-office run with a worldwide gross of $321.9 million.
